This placement year opportunity is aimed at students who want practical experience in a technical environment and are keen to build skills across several areas of IT. The role sits within a close-knit technical team and offers a broad introduction to the technology sector, with day-to-day work spanning multiple disciplines rather than focusing on just one specialism.
The organisation develops technology that supports the NHS and healthcare providers internationally, so the work has real-world impact. As part of the placement, you would be encouraged to contribute to the design, maintenance, and ongoing improvement of services that are important to healthcare operations. The role is well suited to someone who enjoys problem-solving, likes working with technology, and performs well in a busy, fast-paced setting.
What you would do
- Work as part of a small technical team and gain practical exposure to a range of IT functions.
- Take an active role in improving and supporting services that are relied on by the NHS and healthcare organisations worldwide.
- Build experience in areas such as SQL Server database administration, cyber security and networking, computer hardware for both individual and enterprise use, and Windows and server administration.
- Help with the design, upkeep, and enhancement of technical systems and services.
- Develop a hands-on understanding of how different parts of the technology stack fit together in a live environment.
What the employer is looking for
- You must currently be studying a degree related to computing or another computer-focused subject.
- The ideal candidate will have a genuine interest in at least two of the following areas: SQL Server database administration, cyber security and networks, computer hardware, and Windows/server administration.
- You should be someone who enjoys tackling technical challenges and finding solutions.
- You need to be comfortable working in a dynamic environment where priorities can move quickly.
- Academic requirements include at least ABB/AAC at A-level, with either Maths or IT included.

- This is a chance to gain hands-on experience across several technical areas during your placement year.
- You will be working in a setting where the technology you help support contributes to healthcare services.
