Senior Verification Engineer – CPU Overview

Company Name ARM
Job Role Senior Verification Engineer – CPU
Qualifications Not Specified
Category IT Jobs
Job Type Full Time
Location Multiple Locations

Arm is looking for experienced verification engineers to join its CPU organization and help develop next-generation processor products. The work is based around the Cambridge team, with the role also listed for Bristol, and it focuses on advanced CPU verification for technology that is used across a huge range of devices and applications worldwide. This is a chance to work on industry-leading CPU IP in a highly collaborative environment where verification plays a central role in delivering reliable, high-performance products.

The team’s work spans the full verification challenge, from simulation and formal methods through to emulation, and it contributes to processors that have shipped in billions of designs. The group has helped create some of Arm’s most successful CPUs, including high-performance A-class parts, real-time R-class processors, and M-class microcontrollers. The role is suited to engineers who enjoy solving difficult technical problems, working closely with others, and helping shape the quality of complex silicon products from early planning through to final closure.

What you will do

  • Own a defined area of CPU verification, taking responsibility for work that may begin with unit-level testbench development and extend all the way to the overall verification approach for the project.
  • Develop verification plans and define the strategy used to validate the design.
  • Plan, track, and coordinate your own tasks or those of a wider team so that quality targets are achieved on time.
  • Apply a metrics- and evidence-based approach to help ensure the product meets a high standard of quality.
  • Contribute to initiatives that improve verification methods and practices across the CPU group and the wider Arm verification community.
  • Investigate verification issues, work through their root cause, and help resolve them during the project.

What Arm is looking for

  • Strong experience creating and implementing verification environments for complex RTL designs.
  • Practical skill with hardware verification languages, especially Verilog and SystemVerilog.
  • A clear understanding of the end-to-end verification process, including test plan creation and verification closure.
  • The ability to quickly understand detailed specifications and use them effectively in implementation and verification work.
  • Good knowledge of computer architecture fundamentals, particularly pipelining, exception handling, and memory subsystems.
  • Experience with UVM or similar verification methodologies would be helpful.
  • Programming knowledge in C, C++, or Python would be an advantage.
  • Previous work on microprocessor designs would be beneficial.
  • Deeper expertise in memory protection, memory translation, vector processing, and exception or interrupt handling would be valuable.
  • Understanding of constrained-random stimulus, coverage, checking methods, and behavioural functional models would be useful.
  • Experience carrying out detailed technical reviews of other people’s work would be a plus.
  • An interest in artificial intelligence and using it to improve productivity is welcomed.
  • The role is aimed at expert verification engineers, although Arm also notes that the wider CPU team is open to candidates across different experience levels.

Working arrangement and location

This position follows Arm’s hybrid working approach. The company combines in-person collaboration with flexibility, and the exact pattern for this role will be shared during the application process. Arm says that teams help determine the most suitable hybrid setup based on the work involved and the needs of the group. In some situations, flexibility may be limited by legal, regulatory, tax, or other local considerations, and Arm will work with candidates to find the best practical solution.

The role is associated with Cambridge, United Kingdom, and the posting also references Bristol, United Kingdom. Arm notes that no relocation package is available for this position.

Pay and rewards

  • Salary range of £73,500 to £99,500 per year.
  • Access to Arm’s broader rewards and benefits offering, which is described as going beyond salary alone.
  • Health and wellness support focused on physical and mental wellbeing.
  • Support for work and life balance, with flexibility beyond standard working patterns.
  • Financial rewards that recognize contribution and dedication.
  • Development and support resources aimed at helping employees grow professionally and personally.

Visa sponsorship and relocation

Arm states that skilled worker sponsorship can be supported if needed, but only the employer-side sponsorship costs are covered by the company. The successful candidate is responsible for all personal immigration-related charges, including the visa application fee and the Immigration Health Surcharge. The posting also makes clear that relocation support is not provided.

Recruitment support and inclusion

Arm is committed to equal opportunity and says it welcomes applicants from all backgrounds. The company emphasizes mutual respect and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or protected veteran status.

If you need an adjustment or accommodation during the hiring process, Arm invites you to contact its accommodations team by email. Examples of support may include extra breaks between interviews, having documents read aloud, or help with office accessibility. Any information shared for this purpose will be handled confidentially and used only to arrange the necessary support.

About the team and culture

Arm describes its CPU verification work as operating at the edge of what is technically possible, using simulation, formal analysis, model checking, and hardware prototyping to solve problems for technologies that are still emerging. The company says this work has a broad impact across connected devices and many industries, including healthcare, infrastructure, virtual reality, and more.

The culture is presented as collaborative, innovative, and supportive, with a strong emphasis on working together as one organization while also valuing diversity. Arm highlights its office environment, teamwork, and focus on helping employees thrive both professionally and personally.
