You will join Arupâs Transport Consulting team, working in a collaborative and creative setting that sits at the centre of the organisationâs transport planning and modelling capability. The wider transport planning business operates across the UK and internationally, and the team works closely with multidisciplinary colleagues and the global transport modelling community within Arup. The work supports a broad mix of complex, high-profile transport projects that contribute to more sustainable and resilient transport networks.
This opportunity is for an experienced and ambitious transport modeller who wants to take on challenging schemes and use data, models, and modern analytical methods to solve real-world transport problems. The position offers the chance to work across the full modelling lifecycle, from early data analysis and model development through to forecasting, scenario testing, scheme assessment, reporting, visualisation, and client-facing work. You will collaborate with senior modellers and project managers, contribute to both project delivery and bids, and help shape strategic transport models that inform important decisions. The role also offers opportunities to support work elsewhere in the UK and, when needed, internationally.

What you will do
- Build and develop strategic transport models that support planning, forecasting, and scheme assessment work.
- Use data, modelling techniques, and innovative approaches to help solve complex transport issues on high-profile projects.
- Forecast future transport conditions and test different mitigation or intervention scenarios to understand likely outcomes.
- Assess proposed schemes by using modelling evidence to evaluate impacts and support decision-making.
- Work through the complete modelling process, including data analysis, model development, reporting, visualisation, and communication with clients.
- Support project and bid work by contributing modelling expertise and technical input.
- Partner with senior transport modellers and project managers to deliver work effectively.
- Collaborate with colleagues across different disciplines and locations, including support for projects elsewhere in the UK and internationally where required.
- Prepare clear technical notes and reports that present findings to a high standard.
What you will bring
- Experience in transport modelling, ideally covering highways, public transport, and/or multimodal models.
- Practical experience using one or more of the following tools: VISUM, SATURN, CUBE, or MATSim.
- Experience with model development, calibration, and validation.
- Understanding of TAG requirements, forecasting, and scenario testing.
- Strong data analysis skills and the ability to work confidently with modelling outputs.
- Ability to write reports and technical notes clearly and professionally, with strong presentation standards.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work both on your own and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- A desire to continue developing strategic modelling capability and expand technical knowledge in a collaborative environment.
- Right to work in the UK for the full duration of employment, with proof of immigration status required if an offer is made.
