This is an opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer to join the Building Engineering team and contribute to rail-focused building services work. The role sits within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment and involves helping deliver a wide range of rail projects while strengthening the team’s electrical capability across local, national, and international programmes.

You will work closely with colleagues in the UK and across other regions, supporting major rail clients and transport organisations with coordinated electrical engineering solutions. The position also offers the chance to use modern digital design tools, contribute to new ways of working when existing tools are not enough, and play a senior part in client communication, project coordination, and team knowledge-sharing.

What you will do

  • Support electrical engineering design and project delivery for a broad portfolio of rail-related building services work.
  • Help develop and expand the team’s electrical engineering capability across regional, national, and international rail programmes.
  • Work as part of the Building Engineering group, collaborating with colleagues across the UK and globally to deliver joined-up project outcomes.
  • Assist in providing clear, coordinated electrical engineering solutions for major clients, including Network Rail and regional transport organisations.
  • Use Microsoft and Autodesk digital tools to support design and delivery activities, and contribute to alternative digital approaches where standard tools do not fully meet project needs.
  • Take a senior role in communicating with clients and internal stakeholders, helping to manage progress, risks, and important delivery milestones.
  • Contribute to knowledge-sharing, continuous improvement, and a supportive team culture that values collaboration and inclusion.
  • Help deliver technically robust and compliant electrical designs within the built environment.

What the role is looking for

  • Chartered Engineer status, or active progress toward chartership through IET or CIBSE.
  • Experience in electrical engineering design.
  • Experience delivering multidisciplinary design projects in the UK within a consultancy environment.
  • Previous rail electrical design experience, including familiarity with rail-specific design stages and the standards used by major UK rail clients.
  • Experience with assurance, systems engineering, or verification processes used on UK rail projects.
  • A strong record of producing electrical designs that are compliant, technically robust, and appropriate for built environment projects.

Rewards and benefits

  • Competitive pay that is fair and equitable.
  • A broader reward package that reflects individual contribution and shared success.
  • Profit share, so members can benefit from the organisation’s overall performance.
  • Private medical insurance.
  • Life assurance.
  • Accident insurance.
  • Income protection cover.
  • Flexible benefits to support wellbeing and personal needs for you and your family.
  • Access to learning opportunities and development support.
  • The chance to work on meaningful projects with social value and real impact.
  • An inclusive environment where people are encouraged to belong, grow, and thrive.

Culture and inclusion

The organisation describes itself as an equal opportunity employer that actively supports a diverse and inclusive workforce. Applications are welcomed from people of all backgrounds, including differences in age within legal limits, gender identity or expression, marital status, disability, neurotype or mental health, race or ethnicity, faith or belief, sexual orientation, socioeconomic background, and pregnancy or family leave status.

The workplace is described as open and welcoming to different experiences, perspectives, and ideas, with employee networks supporting inclusion across race and ethnicity, cross-cultural working, gender equity, LGBTQ+ inclusion, and disability inclusion. The organisation also says it is guided by its values and the UN Sustainable Development Goals in creating equitable spaces and a sense of belonging.

Accessibility and application support

The recruitment process and workplace are said to be accessible, and candidates who need assistance or reasonable adjustments during the application or interview process are encouraged to contact the named recruitment contact for support. The organisation also asks applicants not to send CVs directly by email when making initial enquiries, and notes that it may close the vacancy early if a large number of applications are received, so early application is encouraged.
