| Company Name | Lloyd & Cowan |

| Category | Healthcare Jobs |
| Job Type | Full Time |
| Location | Leeds |
This is a rare opening for a small animal veterinary surgeon to join a highly regarded and well-supported practice in West Yorkshire, around 50 minutes to the west of Leeds. The role is based in a practice that combines strong clinical support, modern equipment, and a friendly team culture, giving the successful candidate the chance to work in an environment that is both professionally stimulating and personally sustainable.
You would be joining a nine-vet small animal team with a broad mix of experience and clinical interests. The group includes certificate holders in surgery and imaging, as well as experienced medicine clinicians, supported by a substantial team of qualified RVNs and other support colleagues. The practice encourages open discussion, questions, and collaborative case management, so it is a good fit for someone who wants to keep learning without feeling isolated or under-supported.
What the role involves
- Providing day-to-day small animal veterinary care within a busy and varied general practice caseload.
- Working as part of a collaborative nine-vet team with access to colleagues who can offer guidance across surgery, imaging, and medicine.
- Using advanced diagnostic and surgical facilities to support high-quality patient care.
- Contributing to a practice culture that values teamwork, discussion of cases, and ongoing professional development.
- Continuing to develop as a strong all-round GP vet while also having the opportunity to build on particular clinical interests over time.
- Participating in a weekend rota of one weekend in eight.
The practice is purpose-built and exceptionally well equipped, with facilities that include a CT scanner, digital x-ray, ultrasound, an in-house laboratory, dedicated surgical suites, separate inpatient accommodation, and 24/7 onsite nursing support. The out-of-hours work is handled externally, which helps the team maintain a healthier balance between work and personal life.
The caseload is described as busy and varied, making this a strong opportunity for a vet who wants to keep developing clinically in a setting that offers both breadth of experience and long-term support. Certificates are actively encouraged and supported, so there is scope to continue progressing professionally within the role.
What the practice is looking for
- An experienced small animal veterinary surgeon.
- At least two years of UK experience.
- Someone who is not a new graduate.
- A vet who wants to keep building general practice skills while working in a supportive team.
- Someone comfortable working in a collaborative environment and making use of the expertise around them.
- A candidate who is open to further clinical development, including certificate-level progression.
Package and benefits
- Salary from £40,000 to £65,000 depending on experience.
- A four-day working week.
- A weekend rota of one in eight.
- Eight weeks of annual leave, with bank holidays included.
- Strong CPD support and funding.
- Encouragement and support for certificates.
- Payment of professional fees.
- Visa sponsorship.
The location also offers a strong lifestyle balance. Keighley provides access to the Yorkshire countryside and the Dales, while still being well connected to Leeds and Manchester for city amenities, including restaurants, shopping, and nightlife. The area is also more affordable than many larger cities, which can make day-to-day living more manageable.
Overall, this opportunity would suit a vet who wants to join a genuinely supportive team, work with advanced facilities, and continue growing clinically while still enjoying a sensible work-life balance.
