This role sits within a structured teaching programme and is focused on helping deliver a strong student experience, mainly at undergraduate level. The post combines teaching, assessment, and administrative responsibilities, with an emphasis on helping students understand core course material, identify key learning points, and progress successfully through their studies.

What you will do

• Support the planning, organisation, and delivery of undergraduate teaching.
• Carry out a range of teaching and assessment activities for undergraduate subjects.
• Handle course administration tasks within set deadlines, including communicating information, marking work, carrying out assessments, and giving students timely, constructive feedback.
• Help develop teaching resources and materials so that they match the learning objectives and are delivered in effective ways.
• Use digital learning tools to improve teaching, course management, feedback, and assessment, including blended and online learning approaches such as Moodle and other IT-based materials.
• Use specialist subject knowledge to teach in ways that suit both individuals and groups, with an inclusive and evidence-based approach that encourages participation and supports learning outcomes.
• Take part in the full assessment process using different methods, including oral assessment where needed, and provide feedback that is appropriate, useful, and timely.
• Support student projects, dissertations, and practical work by advising on methods, skills, and techniques, while responding appropriately to a wide range of learner support needs.
• Take part in continuing professional development activities as appropriate.
• Carry out any other reasonable duties requested by the Head of School.
• Contribute to the University’s international profile in line with its strategic plan.

What you need

Applicants should have an honours degree at SCQF Level 10 in a subject relevant to the teaching area, or equivalent expertise in a related field, along with an understanding of the principles behind teaching, learning, and assessment. You must also be registered for, and actively working toward, either a PhD (MPhil/PhD) or a PGT qualification in a relevant subject.

The role also calls for strong knowledge of the subject area, experience of teaching or supporting students at undergraduate or postgraduate level in face-to-face, online, or distance-learning settings, and experience supervising, mentoring, or teaching students in practical or active learning environments. Administrative experience related to student support or course administration is also important.

In addition, you should have excellent communication and presentation skills, be comfortable using IT and relevant software to support teaching and learning, and be able to work both independently and as part of a team. The ability to work to deadlines and a commitment to the University’s values and professional behaviours are also required.
