The team sits at the centre of the organisationâs transport planning and modelling capability and works across the UK as well as internationally, partnering with multidisciplinary colleagues and contributing to work that has real value for clients and communities.
This opportunity is aimed at experienced transport modellers who want to take on challenging schemes, strengthen their strategic modelling expertise and expand their technical range. The work covers the full modelling process, from handling and analysing data through to building models, testing future scenarios, assessing schemes, producing reports and visuals, and engaging with clients. You will work closely with senior modellers and project managers, contributing both to project delivery and to bids, while also having the chance to support work in other regions when required.
What you will do
- Build and develop strategic transport models that help inform major transport projects and bids.
- Use data, modelling tools and new approaches to tackle real transport problems in a practical and evidence-led way.
- Work with senior transport modellers and project managers to support project delivery and bid preparation.
- Forecast how transport conditions may change in the future and test different mitigation or intervention options.
- Assess schemes using modelling outputs and support decision-making with robust analysis.
- Carry out work across the full modelling lifecycle, including data analysis, model development, reporting, visualisation and discussions with clients.
- Collaborate with colleagues from different disciplines and locations, including support for projects elsewhere in the UK and overseas when needed.
What the team is looking for
- Previous experience in transport modelling, ideally covering highways, public transport and/or multimodal models.
- Practical experience using one or more of VISUM, SATURN, CUBE or MATSim.
- Experience with model development, calibration and validation.
- A solid understanding of TAG requirements, forecasting and scenario testing.
- Strong data analysis skills and the ability to turn findings into clear reports and technical notes.
- High standards of written presentation and attention to detail in technical outputs.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively on your own and as part of a wider multidisciplinary team.
- A desire to keep developing strategic modelling capability, broaden technical skills and grow within a supportive team.
