ASIC Design Engineer, Amazon Camera ASIC Team Overview
| Company Name | Amazon |
| Job Role | ASIC Design Engineer, Amazon Camera ASIC Team |
| Qualifications | Bachelor’s |
| Category | IT Jobs |
| Job Type | Full Time |
| Location | Cambridge |
This role sits within the team responsible for creating highly differentiated silicon for battery-powered Blink and Ring devices. The group operates in a vertically integrated environment and focuses on advanced system-on-chip development that supports products customers value. The work is centered on a customer-driven approach, starting from product needs and translating them into extremely power-efficient designs.
The engineering environment is broad and integrated, covering everything from architectural modeling through post-silicon validation. The team works on modern SoCs that bring together AI capabilities, video processing, low-power communications, and current CMOS fabrication techniques. This is a role for someone who enjoys solving complex design problems and contributing to products with demanding power and performance goals.
What you will do
- Create detailed micro-architecture specifications and work with the architecture team to refine them, making sure the design links clearly to the relevant KPIs.
- Turn design specifications into robust RTL implementations that meet quality expectations.
- Review third-party IP and judge whether it is appropriate for use in the chip design.
- Estimate power, performance, and area for important IP blocks early enough in the process to guide design decisions.
- Protect design quality by executing and tracking front-end verification and analysis flows, including synthesis, lint checks across RTL, DFT and UPF, power analysis, and static timing analysis.
- Work closely with pre-silicon verification engineers to help shape test plans and test benches.
- Coordinate with post-silicon validation engineers to define validation strategies and execute test plans after silicon bring-up.
- Contribute to the broader silicon development effort for Blink and Ring battery-powered products, helping deliver designs that are both differentiated and energy efficient.
What we are looking for
- Strong debugging skills with demonstrated experience identifying defects in architecture, algorithms, functionality, and performance.
- Practical experience using front-end design tools, including lint, CDC, and RDC analysis tools.
- The ability to write thorough micro-architectural specifications that anticipate and resolve design issues before coding begins, using SystemVerilog or Verilog as the implementation context.
- A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Communications Engineering, or a related subject is preferred.
- Experience with standard industry tools and scripting languages such as Python or Perl for automation is preferred.
- Background working with hardware-software interfaces is preferred.
- Familiarity with formal verification tools and using them to improve RTL quality before testing is preferred.
