G-Research is looking for a Security Advisory Manager to join its Cyber Security team in London. The company works on some of the hardest problems in quantitative finance, combining scientific rigour, advanced machine learning and cutting-edge technology to understand and predict movements in global markets. Security is treated as a core part of that mission, and this role is intended to help engineering teams make strong security decisions in a way that supports how they build and run complex systems at scale.
This position sits close to the technical work and is designed for someone who can provide practical, proportionate security guidance across a broad and changing environment. The engineering landscape includes large research platforms, internal compute, cloud services and developer tooling. Rather than focusing on heavy policy or bureaucracy, the role is about applying sound judgement to real systems, from brand-new builds through to complicated legacy environments. The successful candidate will help ensure that security advice is technically credible, realistic for engineers to act on and aligned with the organisationâs appetite for risk.
What you will do
- Lead and develop a team made up of security architects and business partners, helping them grow in capability and confidence.
- Set the direction for the Security Advisory function and establish the standard for what effective security advice should look like.
- Support detailed design reviews, threat modelling sessions and risk assessments for complex technical systems.
- Serve as a senior escalation contact for difficult or high-stakes security decisions.
- Build trusted relationships with engineering teams so that security guidance is seen as a useful partnership rather than a blocker.
- Shape outcomes through clear explanation, reasoning and collaboration instead of relying on hierarchy or authority.
- Improve the way security guidance is created and delivered so it can work effectively across the organisation at scale.
- Remain close to the technical detail and help guide decisions across both modern and legacy environments.
What the team is looking for
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who wants to stay involved in the detail while also shaping how security decisions are made across the business. The ideal person will be comfortable leading technical specialists, working with highly technical stakeholders and making balanced decisions that account for both security and real-world engineering constraints.
- Substantial experience in security architecture or security engineering.
- Experience advising on security matters across cloud, infrastructure and application environments.
- Proven ability to lead, coach or mentor technical security professionals.
- Strong judgement when weighing security risk against practical delivery constraints.
- Confidence working with technically sophisticated stakeholders.
- Ability to explain complex trade-offs and recommendations in a clear, practical manner.
- A curious and thoughtful approach to solving difficult problems.
- A leadership style suited to someone who wants to remain close to the technical work rather than operate only at a policy level.
