Arm is looking for a senior information developer / technical writer to join its System IP Technical Communications team in Cambridge. The role sits within the Systems Engineering organisation, which creates the hardware building blocks that help Arm processors and other IP fit together into complete SoC designs. In this context, System IP acts as the connective layer that links processors, accelerators, memory controllers, and peripherals into a working system. The technical communications team supports this work by producing documentation for Arm System IP and for the IP Tooling software platform used to configure Arm IP.
This position is a senior individual-contributor and leadership-focused role. You would own the content approach for System IP projects, guide documentation from early planning through delivery, and help ensure the right information reaches partners and customers at the right time. The role also includes mentoring and people leadership responsibilities, so it is suited to someone who can combine strong technical writing skills with the ability to support and develop others.
What you will do
- Create, improve, and maintain documentation that is clear, practical, and centred on the needs of users for both System IP hardware and the IP Tooling software platform.
- Work with engineering teams and other stakeholders to gather technical detail, resolve ambiguities, and confirm that the documentation accurately reflects the product.
- Handle several documentation streams at once across different IP projects and release schedules.
- Guide and support other information developers, including helping plan work and overseeing delivery.
- Establish documentation structures, standards, and review methods that can be reused and scaled across multiple projects.
- Introduce better authoring tools and workflow improvements that raise efficiency and improve output quality.
- Promote strong content practices and help shape documentation direction across System IP work and the wider technical communications group.
- Contribute as a senior technical leader, owning documentation strategy for assigned projects and helping move content from planning to release.
- Produce documentation that helps partners and customers use Arm products effectively and supports key product milestones.
- Support team growth by mentoring colleagues while also developing your own leadership capability.
What Arm is looking for
- At least four years of experience in information development or technical writing, including work on complex documentation sets.
- Experience coordinating documentation across multiple projects and release cycles.
- Strong problem-solving ability and a pragmatic, adaptable approach.
- Excellent communication and organisation skills in environments involving several disciplines and stakeholders.
- Interest in emerging technologies and in how documentation standards continue to evolve.
- Ability to use professional documentation tools effectively, with an emphasis on scalable and efficient content delivery.
- Comfort with change and the ability to adjust priorities and methods when needed.
- A collaborative, inclusive, and open-minded working style.
Helpful experience and background
- Experience documenting low-level hardware or software in SoC, semiconductor, or embedded systems environments would be especially useful, including areas such as firmware, board support packages, boot flows, or system configuration.
- Understanding of hardware design concepts such as RTL, IP integration, chip bring-up, validation workflows, or FPGA prototyping would be an advantage.
- Familiarity with modern documentation toolchains and automation methods, such as Markdown, reStructuredText, Jenkins, JSON, YAML, Python, or shift-left content generation, would be beneficial.
- A degree or postgraduate qualification in a relevant subject such as Computer Science, Physics, Maths, English, Linguistics, or Law would be welcome.
- Experience leading people, or a strong interest in moving into people leadership in the future, would strengthen an application.
Arm makes clear that candidates do not need to match every requirement. The company is looking for someone with a solid base of relevant experience, curiosity, and a willingness to learn. The role can be shaped for the right person, and applicants who are interested but unsure about perfect alignment are encouraged to apply.
What Arm offers
- An inclusive team environment that values continuous improvement.
- The chance to use your expertise and leadership to influence documentation strategy and support people development.
- Opportunities to contribute to documentation for important and innovative System IP products and solutions.
- Flexible hybrid working arrangements.
- Competitive rewards.
- The opportunity to expand your influence within a global organisation that values innovation and ongoing development.
- No relocation package for this position.

In some locations, flexibility may be limited by legal, regulatory, tax, or other local factors, and Arm says it will work with candidates to find the best possible solution.
Visa sponsorship

Candidates can email [email protected] to request support, and any information shared for that purpose will be handled confidentially and used only to arrange the appropriate accommodation.
