Amazon Web Services is looking for a Data Centre Security Specialist to join its growing Data Centre Operations organisation. The role sits within the security function that protects AWS infrastructure and the data centres that support customers around the world. The work is focused on maintaining strong physical security, coordinating contracted guarding resources, and helping ensure that security operations meet global standards while also supporting operational efficiency and financial goals.

The successful candidate will report to the Area Security Manager for the relevant data centre campus. This position is suited to someone who is highly attentive to detail, professional in approach, comfortable working with data and metrics, and motivated by teamwork, customer service, and ongoing improvement. The role also involves working closely with Data Centre Managers and other stakeholders to strengthen security processes and solve operational issues in a practical, innovative way.

What you will do

  • Manage the day-to-day activity of a professional contracted guard force supporting the data centre campus.
  • Partner with Data Centre Managers to develop security strategies that support site operations, budget objectives, and stronger overall protection.
  • Help coordinate vendors who are carrying out repairs or installing new security-related construction and equipment.
  • Track the performance of security vendors, review whether service levels are being met, and request corrective action when needed.
  • Work with site stakeholders to improve understanding of false alarms and reduce unnecessary alarm activity.
  • Gather, analyse, and interpret operational security data to identify trends and measure progress.
  • Confirm that security programmes are being delivered in line with AWS global security requirements and standards.
  • Recommend improvements to electronic surveillance and access control systems.
  • Write reports and prepare presentations describing the condition and performance of physical security operations.
  • Collaborate with managers to create, refine, and roll out security procedures and operating processes.
  • Represent the customer perspective by identifying opportunities to improve security and developing creative solutions that preserve a high level of protection.

Team and environment

You will join a broad and diverse AWS infrastructure team made up of software engineers, hardware engineers, network engineers, supply chain specialists, security professionals, operations managers, and other essential roles. The wider organisation is responsible for designing, planning, delivering, and operating AWS global infrastructure, including the data centres and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling systems that keep the cloud running.

The team works on complex problems with many moving parts and aims to deliver the highest standards of safety and security while supporting large-scale capacity at low cost for customers. AWS also describes its culture as inclusive and collaborative, with an emphasis on curiosity, learning, and taking ownership of ideas through to completion.

Training, support, and culture

The posting states that successful applicants will receive thorough onboarding training and continued support from both local and regional security teams. It also notes that there will be opportunities to work with teams across the world. AWS highlights an inclusive culture supported by employee-led affinity groups and learning events, along with mentorship and other career-growth resources designed to help employees develop professionally.

The company also says it values work-life harmony and aims to provide flexibility in its working culture so that success at work does not come at the expense of home life.

What AWS is looking for

  • A degree in Criminology, Criminal Justice, or a closely related field.
  • Alternatively, a degree or higher qualification in Security, Law Enforcement, or a military discipline.
  • Background experience in at least one relevant area such as corporate security management, transport or supply chain operations, or aviation security.
  • Experience overseeing contract security and physical security operations, including access control, intrusion detection, and CCTV surveillance systems.
  • Someone who is detail-oriented, innovative, professional, and comfortable working collaboratively.
  • Ability to analyse information, produce reports, and communicate clearly with a range of stakeholders.
  • A candidate who is eager to learn, contribute to continuous improvement, and grow within a fast-moving infrastructure environment.

Additional information

The employer states that it welcomes applicants from all backgrounds and makes hiring decisions based on experience and skills. It also reiterates its commitment to equal opportunity, privacy, and workplace accommodations for candidates who need support during the application, interview, or onboarding process.

The role is based in Slough, Great Britain, within the Systems, Quality, and Security Engineering area. The page does not describe a remote or hybrid arrangement, so the position appears to be campus-based at a data centre location.
