What you will do
- Set the tone for a strong safety and wellbeing culture across the site and make sure that safe working practices are embedded in everyday operations.
- Review performance information and introduce changes that keep quality and productivity at a consistently strong level.
- Take responsibility for projects that improve processes, remove inefficiencies, raise productivity, and enhance the customer service experience within your area.
- Measure shift performance against business goals and implement actions that improve operational excellence.
- Work closely with other managers and leadership colleagues to align and standardise shift practices.
- Lead the under-the-roof team and support the smooth running of the operation.
- Handle a broad range of responsibilities during your shift, from team management and daily operational work to process improvement and contingency planning.
- Serve as a mentor and example for newer managers joining the operation.
Working pattern and team context
You will be based at DSS2 in Basildon and work a night-shift schedule from Wednesday through Saturday. The role is part of a high-performing Amazon Logistics team. Amazon Logistics, also known as AMZL, manages last-mile delivery activity in partnership with third-party distribution businesses. The team uses creative problem-solving and continuous improvement methods to move millions of products to customers as smoothly as possible.
The operation has two main sides: the under-the-roof associates who prepare shipments for dispatch, and the delivery teams who take those shipments onward. The environment is described as people-focused and supportive, with particular attention to colleagues working overnight. The operation is heavily shift-based and runs around the clock.
Experience and qualifications needed
- A bachelorâs degree.
- Experience managing teams and helping them develop.
- Experience working with a wide range of stakeholders, including peers and leadership-level colleagues.
- Experience using data or practical evidence to influence decisions and guide business actions.
- Advanced ability in both spoken and written English, as well as the local language.
- Ability to work the specified night-shift pattern in Basildon.
Helpful experience, if you have it
- Background using Lean, Six Sigma, or Kaizen approaches.
- Experience in another logistics setting.
- Professional use of Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
