What you will do

  • Own the strategy for frontier AI public affairs, making sure communications and engagement efforts are aligned with organizational goals and policy priorities.
  • Develop the core narrative, policy messaging, and supporting content needed to explain Google DeepMind’s approach to safe and responsible frontier AI to government audiences.
  • Create written materials such as blog posts and policy papers that help communicate the organization’s position and priorities.
  • Plan and run high-profile events, roundtables, and bilateral meetings with external stakeholders.
  • Bring together participants from government, civil society, academia, and technical policy communities to encourage dialogue and support coalition-building.
  • Lead multi-channel campaigns aimed at advancing objectives on important issues such as AI for Science, AI safety frameworks, and resilience.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with policymakers, think tanks, and opinion leaders.
  • Act as a bridge between external policy debates and internal strategy, helping translate outside developments into actionable internal insight.

What the role requires

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • At least 14 years of experience in public affairs or communications within the technology sector, including experience related to artificial intelligence.
  • At least 2 years of experience in the United States, specifically in policy communications and public affairs.
  • At least 1 year of experience working in the frontier AI landscape.
  • Strong knowledge of technology policy and the ability to quickly understand technical and governance issues.
  • The ability to explain complex technical and policy topics clearly to audiences that are not technical.
  • Proven influence skills across internal and external stakeholders, along with strong communication ability.
  • Experience building durable, trust-based relationships with executive-level stakeholders.
  • A track record of designing and delivering successful policy events, summits, or roundtables that meet strategic goals and help form lasting coalitions among officials and experts.
  • Comfort working in a global environment where collaboration across regions is important.

Compensation and benefits

  • For the U.S. location, the salary range is listed as $221,000 to $307,000 USD.
  • The U.S. package also includes a 15% bonus, equity, and benefits.

  • Paid vacation is 20 days per year, accruing at 6.15 hours per pay period during the first five years of employment.
