This is a senior mobile leadership role focused on building and scaling Valtech’s mobile capability in the UK. The position combines technical direction, client consulting, practice leadership, and commercial contribution. You would work with major brands to shape mobile strategy, modernise platforms, and drive innovation across native and cross-platform ecosystems, while also helping to grow a high-performing mobile practice inside the business.

The role is designed for someone who can operate across strategy, architecture, and delivery. You will collaborate with architects, engineers, strategists, designers, product specialists, data teams, and consultants to help clients create mobile experiences that are secure, scalable, and high performing. The work spans multiple sectors, including financial services, retail, automotive, healthcare, media, and consumer brands, each with its own technology landscape, constraints, and transformation goals.

A large part of the role is client-facing and delivery-oriented, but it also includes responsibility for the health and growth of the mobile practice. The balance is approximately 60% client strategy and delivery, and 40% operational leadership, capability development, and growth.

What success in the role looks like

  • A mobile capability that is growing, sustainable, and well structured.
  • Strong technical communities and clear engineering standards.
  • Trusted client relationships and influence at a strategic level.
  • Growth in mobile-related opportunities and revenue.
  • Teams that perform strongly and deliver excellent experiences.
  • Ongoing innovation across mobile and emerging technologies.

Key responsibilities

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior client stakeholders, helping them make informed decisions on mobile strategy and delivery.
  • Provide senior oversight on complex programmes and intervene early when risks emerge that could affect outcomes, people, or client relationships.
  • Act as a connector across disciplines so that teams can solve end-to-end problems and work in a joined-up way.
  • Monitor the overall condition of the mobile practice, including skills coverage against demand, community engagement, and delivery quality, and take action based on what the signals show.
  • Facilitate workshops and help shape mobile transformation roadmaps for clients.
  • Advise on platform modernisation and architecture choices.
  • Work closely with Product, Design, Data, and Engineering teams to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Influence strategic technology investment decisions.
  • Define and evolve Valtech’s mobile strategy and help grow the UK mobile engineering capability.
  • Take accountability for line management within the practice, including oversight of line managers who report to you.
  • Ensure there is a strong rhythm for one-to-ones, development discussions, performance calibration, succession planning, and handling difficult people issues.
  • Coach emerging leaders and give them opportunities, feedback, and support so they can lead consistently and effectively.
  • Help shape career pathways and the skills framework so that progression is transparent and people are supported through coaching, mentoring, and good management.
  • Set engineering standards and best practices for the mobile practice.
  • Build communities of practice and mentor engineers and architects.
  • Encourage innovation with purpose, from small internal experiments to external thought leadership such as speaking, writing, and publishing white papers.
  • Provide architectural oversight across complex mobile programmes.
  • Lead technical approaches across iOS, Android, and cross-platform technologies.
  • Ensure solutions are designed to be scalable, secure, and resilient.
  • Promote modern engineering practices, including CI/CD, observability, and automation.
  • Investigate emerging technologies such as AI-enabled experiences and intelligent assistants.
  • Work with UK growth teams on pitches and pre-sales activity, contributing a credible craft perspective to executive conversations.
  • Support strategic UK initiatives so the practice contributes to broader business priorities.
  • Contribute to proposals and solution design work.
  • Identify opportunities to expand client relationships and grow engagements.
  • Represent Valtech externally through industry participation and thought leadership.
  • Help reinforce Valtech’s position as a leader in digital experience and mobile innovation.

Experience and qualifications needed

  • Experience leading mobile engineering teams, practices, or capability areas.
  • Strong consulting ability and confidence working with stakeholders.
  • Ability to influence senior leaders in both business and technology contexts.
  • A strong commitment to coaching and developing people.
  • Experience with native mobile development, including iOS and/or Android.
  • Experience with cross-platform tools such as Flutter or React Native.
  • Knowledge of mobile architecture and platform strategy.
  • Experience working in API-driven environments.
  • Understanding of CI/CD and DevOps practices.
  • Knowledge of security, identity, and authentication in mobile systems.
  • Experience with analytics and observability.
  • Familiarity with cloud-native platforms and backend integration.
  • Experience delivering in consulting, agency, or digital transformation environments.
  • Comfort working across strategy, architecture, and delivery.
  • Experience leading client workshops and client engagements.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Commercial awareness and experience supporting growth initiatives.

Desirable experience

  • Experience creating AI-powered mobile experiences or working with agentic AI.
  • Knowledge of modern data platforms and personalisation tools.
  • Experience leading teams spread across multiple geographies.
  • Public speaking, published thought leadership, or wider contributions to the technology community.

Culture and inclusion

Valtech says it is committed to building experiences that work for everyone, and that this starts with its own people. The company describes its culture as inclusive and intentional, with a focus on helping people from all backgrounds feel supported, grow, and succeed. It also encourages applicants to explore its diversity and inclusion information to learn more about how it is working toward a more equitable workplace.

Application process

Applicants are invited to apply through the online form. The application asks for standard details such as name, contact information, location, CV, and cover letter. It also includes questions about experience in client-facing consulting environments, experience in both team leadership and technical leadership, desired salary range, and how the applicant heard about the role. There is also a privacy notice acknowledgement and an optional demographic survey related to gender identity, which Valtech says is voluntary and used only for aggregated reporting and inclusion analysis, not for hiring decisions.
