Anaplan is looking for a senior principal-level software engineer to join its Manchester team and help shape the platform behind its enterprise decision-making product. What you will do

  • Take the lead on architecture, design, and delivery for platform services that support enterprise API gateways, edge routing, and tools that improve developer productivity.
  • Build and expand backend systems that process large volumes of traffic, coordinate request handling, maintain strong isolation between tenants, and provide API-first functionality for thousands of tenants and tens of thousands of users.
  • Work alongside architects and senior engineers to define technical direction and align implementation patterns for major initiatives such as vanity URL support, JWT authentication flows, and cross-service proxying.
  • Help advance deployment and release practices by promoting GitOps-based workflows and supporting container orchestration that is highly available and production-ready.
  • Own important platform features from early design through production rollout and ongoing operation, with a focus on observability, intelligent throttling, and solving difficult concurrency problems such as locking and connection starvation.
  • Write high-quality code and provide technical leadership in Java and Kotlin, making sure backend microservices integrate smoothly with UI components and that edge proxy and CORS-related challenges are handled correctly.
  • Mentor engineers across multiple regions through design feedback, pair programming, and direct technical guidance, helping strengthen the overall engineering culture.

What the team is looking for

  • Substantial experience building software in enterprise environments where systems must handle high throughput and scale reliably.
  • Strong familiarity with modern AI-assisted engineering approaches, including agentic coding patterns and LLM-supported workflows, and the ability to use these tools to improve platform engineering speed.
  • Deep backend expertise in Java and/or Kotlin, plus a strong grasp of how distributed systems work internally.
  • Proven experience delivering API-first platforms, API gateways such as Traefik, and edge routing solutions that remain dependable under sustained traffic of 2,000 or more requests per second.
  • Hands-on knowledge of Kubernetes, containerized deployments, and sophisticated CI/CD pipelines, along with comfort using GitOps, ArgoCD, and rapid release practices.
  • Solid understanding of event-driven systems, real-time data handling, and transaction management in large-scale environments.
  • The ability to balance quick experimentation and iteration with long-term code quality and maintainability, with a preference for action and learning over waiting for perfect certainty.
  • Excellent communication skills, especially the ability to turn complex ideas into clear RFCs and architecture documents that help distributed teams reach agreement.
  • Comfort working across time zones and domains in an asynchronous, collaborative environment.
