This role sits within Amazonâs operations organisation and is focused on leading a delivery station area in a busy, high-pressure environment. The position is responsible for making sure the operation runs effectively, meets customer needs, and continues to grow through strong leadership, careful planning, and disciplined execution. It is a senior operational role with both immediate and long-range responsibilities, combining day-to-day performance management with strategic thinking for future demand and peak periods.
What you will do
- Take ownership of the operational performance for your area, including the key metrics that show how well the business is running.
- Set the strategy for your area so that customer service, operational efficiency, and business growth are delivered together.
- Lead a large team and actively develop the leaders within it through coaching, mentoring, feedback, and ongoing support.
- Review operational and business results regularly, using performance data to identify issues, guide improvements, and maintain accountability.
- Contribute to budget planning, including both financial planning and labour planning, so the operation is properly resourced.
- Ensure that health and safety standards remain strong and are protected across the site and wider operation.
- Plan for the next three, six, and twelve months, with particular attention to preparing for peak trading periods and other high-demand times.
- Support operational leadership by measuring performance, giving constructive feedback, and helping people develop in their roles.
- Work from operational sites and spend significant time on site, collaborating closely with teams and supporting local planning.
- Build contingency plans that help the operation continue running smoothly and reduce the effect of disruptions.
- Drive improvements in quality, safety, and productivity through practical initiatives and continuous improvement thinking.
- Act as a source of accountability and help spread strong operational practices across the wider business.
About the role and team environment
The role is part of Amazon Logistics, which manages last-mile delivery in partnership with third-party delivery businesses. The wider team focuses on moving physical products efficiently to customers and improving the delivery experience through creative problem-solving and continuous improvement. The operation supports a range of delivery services and concepts, including newer offerings such as Amazon Fresh, Prime Now, and Amazon Restaurants.
The logistics organisation has two main sides. One side works under the roof, processing products for dispatch to delivery teams. This part of the operation is described as people-focused and supportive, especially because many colleagues work overnight. The other side works on the road through Amazon Flex, a network of delivery contractors. Across both sides, the business is focused on raising customer experience standards, solving logistics challenges, and reducing its carbon footprint with the help of modern vehicles, including electric vehicles, and advanced technology.
The working environment is fast-paced and challenging, and the role is based at operational sites rather than in a traditional office setting. The job also involves moving between several operational locations, so it is important to be comfortable spending a lot of time on site and working closely with frontline teams and leaders.
What you need
- A bachelorâs degree or an equivalent qualification is required.
- Experience in engineering, operations, business administration, or a related area is preferred.
- Strong leadership skills are needed, including the ability to manage, motivate, coach, and mentor other leaders.
- Applicants should be able to operate effectively in a demanding environment where priorities can change quickly.
- Strategic planning ability is important, along with the discipline to translate plans into operational action.
- Experience using operational metrics and business performance information to guide decisions is valuable.
- A solid understanding of health and safety in an operational setting is expected.
- The role requires the ability to collaborate across multiple sites and work with a broad range of operational stakeholders.
- Candidates should be able to balance short-term operational delivery with longer-term planning and resilience.
