What you will do
- Act as the lead technical contact for a large and complex financial services client, developing strong working relationships with senior leaders such as CTOs, CDOs, and data architects.
- Design and implement governance approaches for data, including lineage, metadata management, access controls, and compliance with regulations and standards such as GDPR, CCPA, and BCBS 239.
- Define and champion ways of distributing data ownership across business units and technical teams so that data responsibility is decentralized while oversight, consistency, and control remain in place.
- Build data capabilities that operate smoothly across on-premises systems and multiple cloud providers, with attention to portability, interoperability, and dependable access.
- Evaluate the data architecture implications of emerging agentic technologies and design for needs such as real-time streaming, vector databases, and secure data sharing for autonomous agents.
- Deliver innovative, reusable, enterprise-grade solutions that create measurable customer value and support broader adoption of Google Cloud.
- Help position Google Cloud as the customer’s first choice by providing solutions that are highly relevant to the financial services industry.
What the role requires
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- Seven or more years working in data architecture, data engineering, or a related area.
- Five or more years of experience with data platforms and technologies.
- Direct experience designing and implementing data solutions for enterprise customers in the financial markets sector, especially in hybrid and multi-cloud settings.
- Experience with data modeling and graph database technologies, including RDF, property graphs, or similar systems.
- Comfort working through ambiguous problems, making decisions, influencing stakeholders, and applying deep expertise in the domain.
- Google Cloud certifications such as Professional Data Engineer or Professional Cloud Architect are preferred.
- Experience creating data governance, security, and compliance solutions in highly regulated environments is preferred.
- Experience contributing to open-source data projects is preferred.
- Familiarity with machine learning and AI concepts and how they can be used in data management and analysis is preferred.
- Understanding of emerging agentic technologies and their impact on data architecture is preferred.
- Strong English proficiency, as Google says English is required for all roles unless the posting states otherwise.
Compensation and other details
- The Germany pay range shown is €148,000 to €152,000, with a 20% bonus target, equity, and benefits.
