Arm is looking for a senior verification engineer to join its CPU organization in Cambridge and help develop the next generation of CPU products. The role sits within a team that works closely with the Cambridge CPU group and contributes to industry-leading processor IP used across a huge range of devices and applications. The team’s work spans advanced verification techniques, including simulation, formal verification, and emulation, and it plays a major part in delivering processors that end up in products used around the world.

The wider CPU verification group has a long track record of delivering highly successful designs, including processors used in smartphones, tablets, AI systems, IoT products, and automotive platforms. The team has contributed to a range of Arm processors, from high-performance A-class designs through real-time R-class processors and M-class microcontrollers. This role is aimed at experienced verification engineers who want to work on challenging, high-impact CPU technology in a collaborative environment.

What you will do

  • Take responsibility for a defined area of CPU verification, covering work from unit-level testbench development through to the overall verification approach for the project.
  • Develop verification plans and define the strategy used to validate the design.
  • Plan, track, and coordinate your own work or the work of a team so that quality targets are achieved on schedule.
  • Use data and evidence to guide verification decisions and help deliver a high-quality product.
  • Contribute to improvement initiatives across the CPU group and the wider Arm verification community.
  • Investigate verification issues and determine the underlying cause and impact of problems encountered during the project.
  • Work on next-generation CPU products in close collaboration with the Cambridge team.
  • Apply advanced verification techniques and tools to help deliver leading CPU IP.

What Arm is looking for

  • Proven experience building and implementing verification environments for complex RTL designs.
  • Strong working knowledge of hardware verification languages, especially Verilog and SystemVerilog.
  • Understanding of the full verification process, from creating test plans through to closing verification.
  • Ability to quickly understand detailed specifications and apply them correctly.
  • Good knowledge of computer architecture fundamentals, particularly pipelining, exception handling, and memory systems.
  • Experience at a level appropriate for an expert verification engineer, while also noting that the wider CPU team is open to candidates across multiple experience levels.
  • Experience with UVM or similar verification methodologies is desirable.
  • Additional programming experience in C, C++, or Python would be useful.
  • Previous work on microprocessor designs would be an advantage.
  • Deeper understanding of memory protection, memory translation, vector processing, and interrupt/exception handling in CPUs would be valuable.
  • Knowledge of constrained-random stimulus, coverage concepts, checking methods, and behavioural functional models would be helpful.
  • Ability to perform detailed technical reviews of other people’s work.
  • Interest in artificial intelligence and using it effectively to improve productivity.

Working arrangements and location

The role is based in Cambridge, with the page also listing Bristol as a location option. • Annual salary range of £73,500 to £99,500.
