This role sits within Google Cloud Consulting and is focused on embedding deeply with customers to turn advanced AI concepts into real, production-ready systems. Rather than operating as a purely advisory consultant, the engineer is expected to work hands-on inside customer environments, writing code, debugging issues, and helping ship bespoke agentic solutions. The position is aimed at highly self-directed engineers who are comfortable taking ownership, solving practical blockers, and working with a founder-like mindset. The work centers on helping enterprise customers move beyond prototypes by addressing the real-world challenges that often prevent AI systems from becoming production grade, including integration complexity, data readiness, and state-management concerns.
The role also plays an important strategic part in Google Cloud’s go-to-market motion. By working closely with accounts, the engineer provides high-touch deployment support for sophisticated AI systems while also feeding field learnings back into Google Cloud’s product direction. The posting emphasizes that the team has access to Google’s broader AI portfolio, including Gemini models and Vertex AI, and that the environment is collaborative, with access to DeepMind expertise and a strong focus on helping customers succeed.
What you will do
- Build complex AI applications and move them from fast prototypes into robust, production-ready agentic workflows, including multi-agent systems and MCP servers, with the goal of delivering measurable business value.
- Develop the technical integration layer between Google’s AI products and customer infrastructure, connecting APIs, older data systems, and security controls as part of a specialist delivery team.
- Create evaluation and observability tooling that helps ensure agentic systems perform well in terms of accuracy, safety, and latency.
- Identify recurring patterns and pain points encountered in customer engagements, then turn those insights into reusable components or formal product enhancement requests for internal engineering teams.
- Work alongside pre-sales and product colleagues to promote strong engineering practices and support durable, successful deployments that customers continue to adopt over time.
- Help customers overcome the practical obstacles that can stop AI initiatives from reaching enterprise maturity, including integration issues, data preparation gaps, and state-management challenges.
- Act as a bridge between customer deployments and Google Cloud’s future roadmap by translating real-world implementation feedback into actionable product insight.
What the role requires
- A bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least five years of software development experience using Python or a similar language.
- Demonstrated success taking AI-driven solutions from concept through launch in production settings.
- Experience designing AI systems on cloud platforms such as Google Cloud Platform.
- Experience building pipelines for both structured and unstructured data, using vector databases and retrieval-augmented generation-style architectures to support enterprise AI solutions.
- Experience leading technical discovery sessions with customers.
- A background that matches the mid-level nature of the role, with the ability to make progress independently, solve problems effectively, and support or mentor more junior colleagues.
- Strong English proficiency, since the company states that English is required for all roles unless a posting says otherwise.
Preferred background
- A master’s degree or doctorate in AI, computer science, or another closely related technical area.
- Experience building multi-agent systems using frameworks such as LangGraph, CrewAI, or ADK.
- Familiarity with advanced agent design patterns such as ReAct, self-reflection, and hierarchical delegation.
- Experience in post-sales delivery or technical consulting work.
- Knowledge of LLM-oriented operational metrics such as tokens per second and cost per request, along with techniques for improving state handling and detailed tracing.
