What you will do

  • Contribute directly to team objectives as an individual engineer, while also taking on work that may have impact beyond your immediate team.
  • Partner with managers and group leads to deliver results and help move work forward across the organization.
  • Improve the quality and structure of the codebase, and help shape architectural decisions.
  • Review code written by teammates, including changes of any size or complexity.
  • Help make production systems easier to run and support by improving maintainability, operational readiness, observability, and overall system health.
  • Take a leading role in technical delivery and look for opportunities to collaborate with other engineering teams.
  • Own substantial pieces of work, contribute to design discussions, and help decide implementation approaches.
  • Influence the team roadmap through technical insight and delivery experience.
  • Participate in hiring by interviewing engineering candidates and contributing to the recruitment process.
  • Support the growth of colleagues by helping them become more effective and efficient in their roles.

Experience and skills the team is looking for

  • The company does not expect every candidate to have every skill listed, but it would like experience in some of the following areas.
  • A strong focus on producing software that is readable, thoughtfully designed, and well tested.
  • Hands-on experience building web applications in any language, plus curiosity and willingness to learn technologies such as Go, Ruby on Rails, Python, Scala, or Rust.
  • Experience working with relational databases, including systems such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.
  • Experience with web architecture at scale, around 20,000 requests per minute or more.
  • Experience with non-relational data technologies and supporting tools such as Redis, DynamoDB, Elasticsearch, or Memcache.
  • Experience using software to solve logistics-related problems.
  • Comfort working in a setting where priorities can be ambiguous and where you may need to take ownership of large, complex problems.
