Deliveroo is looking for a senior analytics engineering leader to help expand its analytics engineering capability across several business areas. The role sits within the company’s analytics organisation, which supports decision-making across its three-sided marketplace, and it is based in London at The River Building HQ. This is a hybrid position, with three days each week expected on site.
The analytics engineering function is a major part of Deliveroo’s wider analytics setup, working alongside data science. The team includes more than 70 analytics engineers across the UK and India, and they are embedded in product and business domains where they own the pipelines, models, and metrics that support decisions at scale. Their work ranges from self-serve, AI-enabled analytics and experimentation through to executive reporting and strategic planning. The discipline is changing quickly, and the organisation is moving beyond traditional pipeline building toward AI-first data products, richer semantic and context layers, and greater enablement for self-serve data users. This leadership role is intended to guide that evolution across several important domains, while also helping to shape standards, culture, and direction across the broader analytics engineering community.
What you will do
- Lead multiple analytics engineering teams across different business domains, including direct management of the managers who run those teams, and take responsibility for performance, development, and wellbeing across the group.
- Own the medium- and longer-term roadmap for analytics engineering in your areas, prioritising the most valuable investments and making the case for them with senior stakeholders in product and the wider business.
- Take part in organisation-wide decisions about tooling, architecture, standards, and working practices, helping define how analytics engineering operates at Deliveroo beyond your immediate teams.
- Promote a data-products mindset across your teams, making sure that clear ownership, service-level expectations, observability, and data contracts are built into everyday delivery.
- Support and coach analytics engineering managers on leadership challenges such as performance, motivation, and team health, while encouraging strong technical discipline and continuous improvement.
- Work closely with recruiting to bring in high-quality, diverse analytics engineering talent across the domains you oversee.
- Use your technical credibility to contribute to architecture discussions and, where needed, step in directly to help solve problems and move work forward.
What you need to succeed
- Significant leadership experience in analytics engineering, BI engineering, or data engineering, with practical SQL knowledge that you still use as part of your technical foundation.
- Demonstrated experience managing both individual contributors and people managers, including a history of developing other managers effectively.
- Evidence that you have owned a multi-quarter technical roadmap and led teams across several business domains in a matrixed environment, delivering measurable business impact.
- Strong technical understanding of the modern analytics engineering stack, including cloud data warehousing, transformation tooling, data modelling, and data quality practices, plus the ability to contribute credibly to architecture decisions and work hands-on when required.
- Confidence influencing senior stakeholders at director and vice-president level, with the ability to align analytics investment to business priorities.
- Experience in marketplace, e-commerce, grocery, or retail analytics would be beneficial.
- Additional useful experience includes federated data architecture patterns, semantic and metrics-layer tooling, Python for data automation or pipeline work, and exposure to or research into AI for data, including semantic layers and pipeline development processes.
- Experience helping shape analytics organisational design is also advantageous, including team structure, role boundaries, and cross-functional alignment between analytics engineering, data science, and data engineering.
