Job Type Full Time

This role sits within Amazon’s operations organisation and is focused on leading a busy site team so the business can continue to meet customer demand. It is a practical, hands-on position where you will build experience running complex operations in a global company, helping keep work flowing smoothly while also improving productivity and service levels. The role is varied, and the pace means each day brings different priorities and challenges.

What you will do

  • Lead a large and diverse team as an Area/Shift Manager, making sure your part of the operation keeps pace with demand.
  • Use analytical thinking to investigate issues, study data, and break down processes to understand where problems are occurring.
  • Identify, test, and implement improvements that strengthen the performance of fulfilment, sortation, and delivery operations.
  • Work closely with managers, technology development teams, and front-line associates to solve difficult operational and business problems.
  • Take a hands-on approach by completing actions that improve the functionality and service quality of Amazon’s operational sites.
  • Maintain a strong focus on safety standards across your team and the wider site.
  • Monitor and support process efficiency so daily operations remain effective and reliable.
  • Handle routine team leadership and operational tasks alongside escalations, improvement work, and large-scale contingency planning.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in other teams and with external partners to help the site stay aligned with customer demand and performance goals.
  • Review data and performance metrics with business leaders and discuss the operational benefits and trade-offs of technical improvements with engineers.

Team and business context

You will be part of Amazon’s Customer Fulfilment organisation, the part of the business that underpins Amazon’s operations network. This team works from fulfilment centres, which are central to the company’s fast-moving logistics system and are often described as the first stage in the journey of many Amazon packages. The environment is busy and highly dynamic, with work spanning physical operations and data-driven decision-making. The team supports the movement of more than 1.5 million orders each day and plays a key role in helping Amazon deliver quickly and affordably.

Working pattern and location

The role is based at one of Amazon’s operational sites in Manchester and requires night-shift working. You will be embedded in the operations team and will spend your time balancing site leadership, safety, efficiency, escalation handling, and planning for operational continuity.

What Amazon is looking for

  • Previous experience in operations management.
  • Experience working with or evaluating AI systems.
  • Experience leading and managing a team, whether that team is internal or external.
  • A bachelor’s degree or Bachelor of Arts degree.
  • Strong analytical ability and a willingness to work through complex operational issues in detail.
  • Confidence working with a range of stakeholders, including managers, engineers, technology teams, and front-line staff.
  • The ability to turn data, process analysis, and operational insight into practical improvements.
  • Comfort with a role that combines people management, site safety, efficiency monitoring, and contingency planning.
