Forward Deployed Engineer, Google Cloud Consulting Overview

Company Name Google
Job Role Forward Deployed Engineer, Google Cloud Consulting
Qualifications Bachelor’s
Category IT Jobs
Job Type Full Time
Location London

In this role, you would join Google Cloud Consulting as a hands-on engineer embedded with customers to help bring advanced AI systems into real production use. The position is aimed at people who are comfortable moving beyond advisory work and into direct implementation: writing code, troubleshooting issues, and shipping tailored agentic solutions inside a customer’s own environment. Google describes the role as suited to highly self-directed engineers who think like builders and want to solve the practical obstacles that stop AI systems from becoming enterprise-ready.

The work sits within Google Cloud’s go-to-market organization and focuses on helping businesses adopt frontier AI capabilities at scale. You would be working with Google’s AI portfolio, including Gemini models and the Vertex AI platform, while also having access to engineering and research expertise from DeepMind. The role is positioned as both customer-facing and product-influencing: you would help customers succeed while also feeding real-world implementation lessons back into Google’s product and engineering teams.

What you would do

  • Build complex AI applications and evolve them from early prototypes into production-grade agent workflows that can include multi-agent systems and MCP servers, with the goal of producing measurable business impact.
  • Develop the technical connections between Google’s AI products and the customer’s live systems, including APIs, older data repositories, and security controls.
  • Create evaluation and observability tooling that helps ensure agent-based systems perform well in terms of accuracy, safety, and latency.
  • Work through the practical barriers that often prevent AI from reaching production, such as integration complexity, poor data readiness, and state-management challenges.
  • Act as a hands-on deployment partner for customers, helping them implement sophisticated AI solutions directly in their environments.
  • Spot recurring patterns, pain points, and opportunities from field work, then turn those insights into reusable building blocks or product improvement requests for Google’s engineering teams.
  • Partner with pre-sales and product colleagues to establish strong engineering practices and support long-term adoption and success of the solutions you help deliver.

What Google is looking for

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least five years of software development experience using Python or another similar language.
  • Experience taking AI-driven solutions from idea stage through launch in production environments.
  • Experience designing AI systems on cloud platforms, including Google Cloud Platform.
  • Experience building data pipelines for both structured and unstructured data, using vector databases and retrieval-augmented generation-style architectures to support enterprise AI use cases.
  • Experience leading technical discovery sessions with customers.
  • Experience at a level where you can drive progress, solve difficult problems, and mentor more junior colleagues.
  • Preferred: a master’s degree or PhD in AI, computer science, or another relevant technical area.
  • Preferred: experience building multi-agent systems with tools such as LangGraph, CrewAI, or ADK, and using advanced design patterns such as ReAct, self-reflection, and hierarchical delegation.
  • Preferred: experience in post-sales delivery or technical consulting work.
  • Preferred: knowledge of LLM-oriented operational metrics such as tokens per second and cost per request, along with techniques for state management and fine-grained tracing.
  • Strong English ability, since Google states that English proficiency is required for all roles unless the posting explicitly says otherwise.

Additional context

Google frames this as a mid-level role for someone who can combine technical depth with customer engagement. The company emphasizes collaboration, direct access to advanced AI capabilities, and the chance to help shape the next generation of cloud-based AI offerings through real customer deployments.

Google also notes that it is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer and that it is committed to building a workforce that reflects the users it serves. The company says applicants who need an accommodation can use its accommodations form. It also states that it does not accept agency resumes and will not pay fees for unsolicited resumes.
