The EU Sustainability Engineering group is seeking a senior electrical engineering specialist to help advance Amazonâs electrification and sustainability efforts across Europe. This position sits at the center of the companyâs work to build the electrical backbone for large-scale EV charging and smart grid deployment, supporting Amazonâs broader commitment to reach net-zero carbon across its operations by 2040. The role is focused on turning sustainability goals into practical engineering solutions that can be standardized, scaled, and deployed across a major operational network.
The work is tied to Amazonâs last-mile and middle-mile electrification efforts, energy-efficiency improvements across buildings, and smart grid innovation. The successful candidate will help define the technical direction for electrical infrastructure that supports these programs, working with internal teams and external manufacturers to create reliable, cost-conscious, and repeatable solutions.
What you will do
- Set and maintain technical standards for electrical equipment used throughout the network, and develop common infrastructure designs in collaboration with manufacturers.
- Review and validate engineering designs to make sure installation teams meet electrical requirements and to identify issues before they reach the field.
- Act as the technical point of reference for Field Engineering teams as they prepare for on-site execution.
- Establish clear expectations across teams involved in deploying EV charging infrastructure and smart grid systems.
- Help shape the roadmap for high-voltage and low-voltage infrastructure, including EV chargers, substations, energy-efficiency solutions, and connected technologies such as smart meters.
- Prepare and present business cases to leadership in order to secure approval and funding for new programs.
- Partner with project managers to coordinate major installations across multiple countries.
- Promote ongoing improvements in commissioning, auditing, value engineering, and cost control.
- Work closely with Operations, RME, Health & Safety, Global Fleet Product, Finance, Procurement, and external vendors to design and deploy electrical infrastructure across Amazonâs EU sites.
Team and environment
You would join the EU Sustainability Engineering team, which owns the definition and ongoing improvement of electrical standards for Amazonâs EV charging network and smart grid solutions. The team places strong emphasis on both reliability and cost efficiency, with a belief that unnecessary waste is a major barrier to meaningful sustainability progress.
The role involves frequent collaboration across Amazonâs last-mile network and close day-to-day partnership with Operations, On Road (DSP), and RME teams. The work is highly cross-functional and requires engagement with stakeholders at many levels of the organization, including senior leadership, internal operational teams, finance and procurement partners, and external suppliers.
Experience and qualifications
- A masterâs degree or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or a related field is required.
- You should have experience leading large projects through the full product development lifecycle in a substantial cross-functional setting.
- You should also have a track record of driving collaborative projects from concept through delivery, or experience in a technical support role.
- Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal, are preferred.
- Preferred hands-on experience includes building electrical engineering systems directly, such as large-scale power distribution or generation equipment, as well as mechanical systems like cooling systems.
Location
The posting lists Luxembourg, London, Milan, Munich, and Barcelona as the locations associated with the role.
