Staff Verification Engineer – Media IP Overview

Company Name ARM
Job Role Staff Verification Engineer – Media IP
Qualifications Not Specified
Category IT Jobs
Job Type Full Time
Location Multiple Locations

This is an opportunity for an experienced, highly driven verification engineer to join Arm’s Media IP organisation and help shape the future of a new team. The group develops image signal processors, display processors, and video codecs that are used within Arm Compute Subsystems across a range of markets, including automotive, IoT, and client devices. The team’s intellectual property includes RTL, reference drivers, tools, and libraries, giving customers a strong foundation on which to build innovative products.

The role is focused on creating and improving hardware verification capability for next-generation IP. You will design new verification testbenches, enhance existing environments so they are faster, higher quality, and more efficient, and help improve the methods and processes used across the Media IP area. Because this is a new team, there is substantial scope to influence how it works, how it grows, and how your own career develops within it.

What you will do

  • Take responsibility for verification at unit level or across a multi-unit hierarchy, or lead verification for a full IP block such as ISP, display, or video.
  • Build verification IP and complete verification environments that support robust validation of future hardware designs.
  • Develop new testbenches for hardware IP and refine existing ones to improve speed, quality, and efficiency.
  • Assess proposed design changes from a verification standpoint, identifying complexity and risk early in the design process.
  • Analyse simulation results and, where appropriate, apply machine learning and data science techniques to improve bug discovery and debugging.
  • Identify opportunities to improve verification processes and methodologies across Media IP, then implement those improvements to strengthen best practice and efficiency.
  • Work closely with other Arm engineering teams to help deliver IP that integrates cleanly and performs well in a full system context.
  • Provide mentoring and day-to-day support to colleagues in the team.

What you need

  • Hands-on experience with constrained-random verification, including ownership of a fairly complex verification environment and the creation of testbenches.
  • Proven ability to write reusable and scalable code, together with strong knowledge of SystemVerilog UVM.
  • Strong scripting capability, including the ability to create scripts that support both new and existing verification flows.
  • A solid software engineering foundation, including object-oriented programming, data structures, and algorithms.
  • Familiarity with the tools and processes used to develop testbenches and complete the verification lifecycle.
  • For more senior appointments, evidence of technical leadership and/or team leadership is expected.
  • Experience leading a team and mentoring others would be advantageous.
  • Experience with multiprocessing microarchitecture and bus protocols such as AMBA APB, AHB, and AXI would be beneficial.
  • Previous work on formal verification testbenches would be a plus.
  • Background in video codec, ISP, or display development, especially with advanced image-processing methods such as local tone mapping, noise reduction, motion estimation, and transform coding, would be valuable.
  • Experience in functional safety development for automotive products, including application of standards such as ISO 26262 and/or IEC 61508, would be an advantage.
  • Experience working with continuous integration pipelines would also be useful.
