Arup is seeking a solution architect to join its digital advisory practice and help expand its client-facing solution and enterprise architecture capability. The role sits within a multidisciplinary consulting environment and focuses on shaping sustainable digital solutions, guiding them through design and implementation, and contributing to technology strategy and analysis. The work is varied and may also include supporting digital solutions that complement Arup’s building engineering and design services.
The solutions involved are expected to make use of modern digital technologies such as cloud services, data integration and analytics, including artificial intelligence and machine learning, as well as GIS applications. The position is based in the UKIMEA region and is advertised with London as the primary location, alongside additional opportunities in Bristol, Leeds, Birmingham, Manchester, and Edinburgh.
What you will do
- Lead high-level design sessions with clients and help define solution direction at an early stage.
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary consulting team to design sustainable digital solutions and support their implementation.
- Provide architectural assurance and guidance to the software development team so that delivery stays aligned with the intended architecture.
- Carry out technology strategy work and analytical assessments to support architecture decisions.
- Contribute to solutions that may support Arup’s wider building engineering and design work, where needed.
- Help shape and deliver solutions that use cloud platforms, data integration, analytics, AI and machine learning, and GIS tools.
What the role calls for
- Experience in one or more built environment sectors, such as energy, water, rail, highways, aviation, buildings, or sustainability.
- Energy-sector experience is especially useful for this position.
- Experience delivering technology projects or products in an IT function, IT services environment, or IT consulting role.
- Strong working knowledge of at least one architecture discipline, such as solution architecture, data architecture, cloud architecture on AWS, Azure, or GCP, integration architecture, or enterprise architecture.
- Practical experience with business analysis, digital requirements management, and project management methods.
- Ability to produce non-functional requirements and to manage risks and dependencies effectively.
- Experience working within the software development lifecycle.
- Familiarity with both agile and waterfall delivery methods.
- Experience working with the Government Digital Services Framework.
- Comfort operating in a client-facing consulting environment and contributing to architecture work across multiple disciplines.
