Company Name Infosys
Job Role Structure Stress Engineer- Fatigue and Damage Tolerance Broughton
Qualifications Not Specified
Category IT Jobs
Job Type Full Time
Location Rest of UK

This permanent consulting role is based in Broughton, United Kingdom, and sits within Infosys’ delivery organisation. The position is focused on aerospace structural stress work, with a particular emphasis on fatigue and damage tolerance analysis for airframe structures. The successful candidate will contribute to detailed engineering assessments that support aircraft structural integrity, airworthiness, and maintenance planning.

What you will do

  • Perform practical fatigue and damage tolerance analysis for aerospace airframe structures using recognised structural engineering methods.
  • Apply fatigue design guidance, principles, and calculation techniques to evaluate structural durability and life.
  • Carry out fatigue life calculations and crack growth assessments, including analysis of corner cracks, through cracks, and other crack configurations.
  • Use crack propagation criteria to establish critical crack lengths and support inspection planning.
  • Assess inspection techniques and crack detectability to determine detectable crack lengths and related maintenance considerations.
  • Support finite element-based structural analysis work using relevant engineering tools and software.
  • Work with tools and platforms such as HYPERMESH, NASTRAN, PATRAN, NASGRO, MSC NASTRAN, and the ISAMI FDT suite, including 1DBJ, 2DBJ, 3DBJ, FASTPPH, and CFA.
  • Use CATIA V5 at a basic level where needed, and work comfortably with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Calculate fatigue and damage tolerance for metallic and fastener components using the AFI method.
  • Contribute to composite fatigue analysis activities when required.
  • Perform crack propagation and damage tolerance studies using NASGRO models and related approaches.
  • Identify principal structural elements and determine stress concentration factors.
  • Assess the influence of size, material, joints, machining quality, and manufacturing processes on fatigue behaviour.
  • Calculate fatigue index values, fatigue equivalent stress, and reference stresses from one-dimensional and two-dimensional spectra.
  • Carry out fatigue spectrum analysis and damage simulation analysis for different mission profiles.
  • Estimate fatigue life and complete damage tolerance evaluations to support airworthiness and structural safety decisions.
  • Analyse single load path, multiple load path, and damage-containment structures from a damage tolerance perspective.
  • Define initial crack assumptions, determine critical crack lengths, and support airworthiness limitation items, thresholds, and inspection intervals.
  • Apply low-life mitigation methods in line with OEM-driven processes.
  • Prepare technical deliverables and engineering documentation such as ACD/ACS/DSD, SCNs, and stress dossiers.

What the role requires

  • Between five and ten years of hands-on experience in aerospace structural stress analysis.
  • Proven background working on aircraft programmes such as A320, A330, A350, and A380.
  • Deep understanding of fatigue design philosophies and the behaviour of structural and fatigue failures.
  • Strong knowledge of fatigue assessment principles and methods.
  • Practical experience in damage tolerance analysis and crack growth modelling.
  • Experience using NASGRO-based models for crack propagation analysis.
  • Experience with fatigue analysis of metallic and fastener parts using AFI methods.
  • Exposure to composite fatigue analysis.
  • Working knowledge of FEA and structural analysis tools, including HYPERMESH, NASTRAN, and PATRAN.
  • Basic knowledge of CATIA V5.
  • Good command of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong analytical thinking and a high level of initiative.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in how you work.
  • Strong customer orientation and a clear focus on quality.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
