This role sits within Amazonâs operations organisation and is focused on leading a busy sort centre environment where performance, planning and people leadership all matter. The position is designed for someone who can take ownership of a siteâs operational results, shape the direction of the business area they lead, and help ensure the operation runs efficiently, safely and reliably for customers.
What you will do
- Take responsibility for the operational performance of your area, including the key metrics that show how well the site is running.
- Set the strategy for the site or business area so it can meet customer needs and support growth in operations.
- Lead and develop a sizeable team of leaders, including coaching and mentoring them so they can perform at a high level.
- Review operational and business data regularly, use it to understand performance, and act on what the numbers show.
- Help plan the operational budget, with attention to both financial planning and labour planning.
- Make sure health and safety standards remain strong and that safe working practices are protected across the operation.
- Plan ahead for the next three, six and twelve months, with particular attention to peak periods and demand changes.
- Provide leadership accountability by measuring results, giving constructive feedback and supporting the development of others.
- Create contingency plans that help the site continue operating through disruption and unexpected issues.
- Lead improvement work that raises quality, safety and productivity, while also promoting effective practices across the wider business.
What the role looks like day to day
You will be based at an operational site rather than working remotely. A large part of the job involves being present on site, which helps you support your team directly and work closely with colleagues on operational planning. The role has both immediate and long-term responsibilities: on one hand, you will manage and motivate leaders; on the other, you will focus on future planning, resilience and continuous improvement. You will be expected to keep operations moving, reduce the effect of disruptions, and act as a visible source of accountability and best practice across the business.

What Amazon is looking for

- Experience managing salaried, hourly and agency workers in logistics, fulfilment, last-mile, manufacturing, engineering, production or distribution environments.
- Practical use of Lean Process Improvement, Six Sigma or similar methods to improve efficiency and performance.
- Experience improving processes connected to forecasting, planning, optimisation and logistics.
- Flexibility to work according to business needs, including nights, weekends and holidays.
- Confidence working in a fast-paced, challenging environment where operational leadership and data-driven decision-making are essential.
- Strong planning, analytical and leadership skills, with the ability to support team development and drive results through others.
- A clear commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement.
