Senior RTL Design Engineer Overview

Company Name ARM
Job Role Senior RTL Design Engineer
Qualifications Not Specified
Category IT Jobs
Job Type Full Time
Location Bristol

Arm’s Systems team develops leading IP and subsystem solutions for a wide range of application areas, with a strong focus on AI-related use cases. The team brings together the latest IP from Arm and external vendors to build solutions that support markets such as mobile, server, IoT, automotive, and others. This role is for an IP verification engineer who enjoys solving difficult technical problems and wants to help ensure that complex hardware blocks work correctly together and with the software that depends on them.

The position focuses on verifying and testing sophisticated IP, including crypto accelerators, hardware DVFS blocks, PCIe controllers, and interconnect fabrics. The work is aimed at making sure these components integrate reliably into larger systems so that Arm’s partners can build high-quality products.

What you will do

  • Develop detailed verification plans and define the test strategy for the IP and subsystem work you support.
  • Create software-driven tests in C, as well as SystemVerilog and Verilog testbenches and test cases, to validate functionality and expose issues.
  • Debug failing tests, investigate defects, and help drive problems to resolution.
  • Work with project managers and technical leads to organise tasks, set schedules, and provide progress updates.
  • Collaborate with specialists across architecture, design, implementation, modelling, performance analysis, silicon validation, FPGA development, and board development.
  • Verify advanced IP blocks and subsystems such as cryptographic accelerators, DVFS-related hardware, PCIe controllers, and interconnect structures.
  • Make sure the hardware behaves correctly on its own and when combined with software and other system components.
  • Contribute across the full verification process, from early requirements work through methodology definition, implementation, documentation, and support.

What you need

  • Solid experience using Verilog and SystemVerilog for digital hardware verification.
  • Practical knowledge of at least one verification approach, such as UVM, formal methods, or power-aware verification.
  • Experience with SoC verification that includes embedded low-level programming, especially C/C++ tests and assembly language, ideally on ARM-based systems.
  • Familiarity with the complete verification flow, including gathering requirements, planning methodology, writing test plans, building testbenches, creating test cases, documenting work, and providing support.
  • Strong debugging and analytical skills, with the ability to solve complex technical problems.
  • Understanding of IP and SoC verification flow and strategy.
  • Experience with ARM-based builds and/or ARM architecture concepts.
  • Knowledge of clock domain crossing verification.
  • Experience with GLS and DFT/DFD.
  • Experience with UPF and power-aware verification techniques.
  • Ability to automate work using shell scripting or languages such as Tcl, Perl, or Python.
  • Interest in exploring and applying AI-based methods in digital verification.

Nice-to-have experience

  • Exposure to formal verification tools such as JasperGold or VC Formal.
  • Background in hardware security or cryptographic algorithms.
  • Understanding of machine learning techniques and how they may be used in verification.
  • Familiarity with ARM’s proprietary tools and environments.

The role comes with a salary range of £97,300 to £131,700 per year. Arm also describes its wider rewards package as covering health and wellbeing, support for life outside work, financial recognition, and development opportunities. The company highlights a supportive culture where people can thrive both professionally and personally.

Arm’s hybrid working approach is intended to support both strong performance and personal wellbeing. The company aims to bring people together in person where it helps teams work effectively, while still allowing flexibility. Each team sets its own pattern within that framework, and the exact arrangement for this role will be explained during the application process.
