Senior Software Engineer Overview

Company Name ARM
Job Role Senior Software Engineer
Qualifications Not Specified
Category IT Jobs
Job Type Full Time
Location Cambridge

Arm’s Vulnerability Research and Tooling group is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to help develop and scale Metis, the company’s central platform for security analysis. The team builds backend services and supporting tooling that allow engineering groups to run security analysis in one place, with consistent operations, shared visibility, and security data that can be acted on across the business. This position is centered on expanding software composition analysis capabilities and the backend systems that make those capabilities work reliably at scale.

What you will do

  • Design, implement, and support the main backend services that underpin Arm’s centralized security analysis and data-processing environment.
  • Create Python services, APIs, and workflow components that manage tool onboarding, analysis execution, output processing, and delivery of results.
  • Improve the platform so it remains scalable, resilient, and easy to operate as more teams adopt it and analysis demand increases.
  • Extend software composition analysis functionality and help establish the platform base needed to support additional security tools over time.
  • Introduce strong observability into the services by adding metrics, dashboards, monitoring, and alerting.
  • Collaborate with security and engineering partners to convert requirements into workable platform features.
  • Contribute to the ongoing evolution of the backend architecture and the way services connect and integrate.
  • Support tool integration and results handling so that analysis outputs are useful for engineering teams.

What Arm is looking for

  • Excellent Python programming ability, along with comfort using scripting tools such as bash.
  • Proven experience building, deploying, and operating backend services or internal platforms in production.
  • A strong understanding of API design, backend architecture, and communication between services.
  • Experience working in cloud environments, with AWS preferred.
  • Practical experience with containers and related tooling, such as Docker.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD methods and modern engineering workflows.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well across security and engineering teams.
  • Useful additional knowledge includes software composition analysis, dependency risk, and open-source security issues.
  • Experience using SCA tools and interpreting their results would be an advantage.
  • Background in large-scale analysis pipelines, data processing, or workflow orchestration would be helpful.
  • Familiarity with observability tooling, operational metrics, and service-health dashboards is desirable.
  • Experience with React or a similar front-end framework would be a plus.
  • Interest in security tooling, vulnerability research, and scalable analysis platforms would be beneficial.
