Category IT Jobs
Job Type Full Time
Location Cambridge

The Software Engineering group focused on CE-SW develops and enhances the software ecosystem that supports Arm’s next-generation architectures and systems. The work involves technology for processors and other hardware that is not yet publicly available, so this role offers the chance to help shape future computing platforms at an early stage. You would join a team of software engineers who are motivated by building technology that leaves a lasting mark on the industry.

Role overview

This opening is for a Senior Engineer in the FuSa Toolchain team, where the focus is on pioneering compiler technology and close collaboration with the wider LLVM community. The position centers on Arm’s commercial Functional Safety compiler toolchain and associated libraries. Prior experience with LLVM or functional safety projects would be helpful, but it is not a strict requirement.

What you will do

  • Develop and improve Arm’s commercial C/C++ toolchain and the libraries used in safety-critical projects.
  • Enhance the automated testing frameworks that support toolchain quality and reliability.
  • Write and maintain documentation required for safety-related work.
  • Contribute to compiler technology work in a team that engages with the broader LLVM ecosystem.

Skills and experience needed

  • Very strong C/C++ programming skills, with the ability to introduce major new functionality and investigate and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Some knowledge of assembly language, along with strong debugging capability, is preferred.
  • Experience across both application software and low-level systems, plus a solid understanding of system architecture, ideally Arm architecture, and operating system basics.
  • Comfort using standard software engineering practices, tools, and workflows, including code review.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with excellent written and spoken English.

Additional experience that would be an advantage

  • Background in compiler development, particularly work involving LLVM.
  • Low-level programming experience in Arm assembly.
  • Practical use of git for source control.
  • Test development using continuous integration systems such as Jenkins.
  • A degree or equivalent professional experience demonstrating the same level of capability.

Arm says this role gives you the chance to learn about the latest Arm architecture features while working side by side with highly skilled engineers on technology that is genuinely cutting-edge. In some locations, legal, regulatory, tax, or other constraints may limit flexibility, and Arm says it will work with candidates to find the best possible solution.

Visa sponsorship

If Skilled Worker sponsorship is needed, Arm states that it will pay the employer’s sponsorship-related costs. The candidate who is hired must cover the visa application fee and the Immigration Health Surcharge.
