IC Resources is recruiting on behalf of a fast-growing sensing technology business for an experienced FPGA Engineer to join its development team near Bristol. The position is based on site and sits within a collaborative group of scientists and engineers working on advanced distributed fibre sensing products that are used around the world to help monitor critical infrastructure, including borders, pipelines, railways, and power networks.

This is a practical engineering role with a strong mix of new product development and ongoing enhancement work for existing platforms. The successful candidate will be involved in taking ideas from early-stage concept work through to deployment in real-world systems, contributing to products that have direct application in demanding operational environments.

What you will do

  • Design and develop FPGA solutions for distributed fibre sensing instruments used in critical infrastructure monitoring.
  • Support both research and development of new products and the refinement of current platforms.
  • Work closely with scientists and engineers in a team environment where ideas move quickly from concept to implementation.
  • Contribute to the full journey of product development, from initial design thinking through to practical deployment.
  • Carry out hands-on FPGA engineering work as part of an on-site team near Bristol.

What the employer is looking for

  • Strong practical experience with VHDL.
  • Hands-on use of Xilinx Vivado.
  • Experience designing across multiple clock domains and resolving timing closure challenges.
  • Ability to implement DSP features in FPGA logic, including digital down conversion, filtering, and FFT-based processing.
  • Familiarity with Xilinx RFSoC Ultrascale+ devices and the ADC/DAC peripherals associated with them.
  • Knowledge of high-speed digital and analogue hardware design, along with the ability to debug related issues.
  • Background appropriate for an experienced FPGA Engineer.
  • Willingness and ability to work on site near Bristol.
