This opportunity is with a well-funded semiconductor start-up that is developing a new approach to AI accelerator design. The company is focused on creating highly specialised silicon rather than relying on conventional general-purpose architectures, with the aim of improving compute efficiency for modern AI workloads. Its work is already drawing strong industry support, and the business is now looking for an experienced ASIC Design Engineer to help build the next generation of configurable AI processing architectures.
Role overview
This is a deeply technical position that combines architectural input with practical RTL implementation. You will be involved across the full silicon development flow, helping turn early architectural ideas into hardware that can be manufactured and deployed. The role involves close collaboration with verification, software, and systems engineering teams, and it offers the chance to influence both the technical direction of the product and the way the designs are developed.
What you will do
- Develop and implement RTL for high-performance AI accelerator architectures.
- Contribute to architectural planning and help shape future product direction.
- Improve existing RTL to enhance performance, reduce power use, and lower silicon area.
- Review architectural choices, weigh trade-offs, and suggest design refinements.
- Work alongside verification, software, and systems engineers throughout the development cycle.
- Write and maintain micro-architecture descriptions, interface definitions, and design documentation.
- Assist with integration of the design into larger SoC environments.
What the company is looking for
- Substantial RTL design experience using Verilog or SystemVerilog.
- Experience delivering ASIC projects through to silicon.
- Exposure to FPGA development and prototyping work.
- Background in high-performance digital design or signal-processing hardware.
- Understanding of how to integrate accelerator IP into Arm-based or RISC-V-based SoCs.
- Ability to use scripting languages such as Python or Tcl to support engineering tasks.
- Awareness of AI workloads or hardware acceleration concepts.
- Experience working with Git and modern development workflows.
- Familiarity with simulation and verification environments.
About the ideal candidate
The right person will enjoy working in a fast-paced environment where engineers are trusted to take ownership and make a real impact on the product. You should be comfortable dealing with unfamiliar technical challenges, happy to work across multiple disciplines, and motivated by the opportunity to create new silicon rather than simply maintain existing products. The company also values engineers who enjoy collaborating with experienced colleagues, exchanging knowledge, and continuously improving both the design itself and the processes used to build it.
Why this role stands out
- Join an ambitious semiconductor company during an important growth phase.
- Work on genuinely innovative AI hardware and accelerator technology.
- Have a meaningful voice in architectural decisions rather than only executing specifications.
- Take on broad responsibility across the ASIC development lifecycle.
- Collaborate with a skilled, multidisciplinary engineering team.
- Contribute to products designed to push the limits of compute efficiency.
