What you will do
- Take full ownership of EHS programs connected to data center construction in the UK, while serving as a trusted EHS advisor to Google stakeholders.
- Identify environmental and safety risks at construction sites and put practical mitigation measures in place.
- Support the move from design into construction and then into operational activity, making sure safety and EHS considerations are carried through each stage.
- Hold contractors accountable for delivering strong service quality and ensure that problems are identified early and resolved quickly.
- Encourage a culture of continuous learning so that projects become safer, more efficient, and more productive over time.
- Work closely with general contractors, electrical and mechanical trades, and commissioning agents to manage construction quality processes.
- Develop, implement, and maintain the global EHS electrical safety program for data centers and technical infrastructure assets.
- Make sure the program is aligned with Google Cloudâs EHS expectations, complies with applicable regulations, reduces risk, and supports a high-performing safety culture.
What you need
- A bachelorâs degree in civil, electrical, mechanical, or industrial engineering; EHS; architecture; construction management; another related field; or equivalent practical experience.
- At least five years of experience in construction-related EHS work.
- Hands-on experience with workplace electrical safety, including familiarity with standards such as NFPA 70E.
- For this role, Google describes the level as mid-level, meaning the successful candidate should be able to drive progress, solve problems, and mentor less experienced team members while bringing solid applied expertise.
- Preferred background includes a local or regional EHS certification.
- Preferred knowledge of operational metrics and reporting.
- Preferred understanding of the structural, electrical, mechanical, and controls systems used in data centers.
- Preferred ability to read and interpret plans and technical drawings.
- Preferred fluency in English and Finnish to support client relationship management in the region.
- Preferred strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
