This role is part of the Android devices organization and focuses on shaping the user experience for onboarding across the Android ecosystem. The work centers on making complex device setup and related experiences feel clear, consistent, accessible, and scalable for a global audience. You would be designing for a platform that powers billions of devices and collaborating with partners across product, engineering, research, and device manufacturers to improve how people begin using Android and related settings and lifecycle experiences.
What you will do
- Take ownership of important design initiatives within the devices area, driving them from early concept through implementation.
- Create design approaches that can scale across the wider Android ecosystem, including reusable interaction patterns, design principles, and system-level solutions.
- Partner strategically with OEMs to improve the onboarding journey and raise the quality of the experience across devices.
- Lead the UX direction for ambiguous and complex onboarding-related areas, including onboarding and settings design libraries and experiences tied to the device lifecycle.
- Guide projects from discovery through post-launch iteration, making sure the experience continues to improve after release.
- Develop and maintain the onboarding design system so that visual language, interaction behavior, accessibility, and scalability remain aligned across Android.
- Work with designers, researchers, engineers, and product managers throughout the design process, from user flows and wireframes to mockups and prototypes.
- Advocate for user needs at every stage and ensure the final experience is intuitive, refined, and effective for both new and experienced users.

What you need
- A bachelor’s degree in a design discipline such as interaction, graphic, visual communications, product, or industrial design, or in human-computer interaction, or equivalent practical experience.
- Six or more years of experience in product design and UX design.
- Experience designing consumer-facing mobile applications or systems with significant data complexity.
- A portfolio that shows both your design process and your ability to execute high-quality work.
- Experience bringing AI or generative AI capabilities into products that users can interact with.
- The ability to lead design work in areas where the problem space is still evolving and to create solutions that can scale to complex needs.
- The ability to explain and defend design choices while representing user interests to cross-functional partners.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Mid-level professional experience, including the ability to move work forward, solve problems, and support or mentor more junior teammates.
- English fluency, since the company requires English proficiency for all roles unless a posting explicitly says otherwise.
