Senior SoC Verification and Emulation Engineer Overview

Company Name ARM
Job Role Senior SoC Verification and Emulation Engineer
Qualifications Not Specified
Category IT Jobs
Job Type Full Time
Location Multiple Locations

Arm is looking for a highly capable senior engineer to join its System-on-Chip performance analysis group within Central Technology. The team creates early performance-analysis platforms that help explore future Arm system and SoC architecture. By studying workloads and how they behave, the group feeds insight back into the design of future SoCs, CPUs, and IP. This role is aimed at engineers who enjoy simulation and emulation work and want to broaden their scope into firmware, software, and performance analysis.

What you will do

  • Create and maintain SoC verification testbenches that support both simulation and emulation-based performance analysis.
  • Edit RTL and integrate IP blocks together to assemble different SoC configurations for testing and exploration.
  • Apply incremental system-firmware changes and bring the SoC up so that test cases can run successfully.
  • Validate the SoC using bare-metal test programs and operating-system boot flows.
  • Partner with architects to help define the shape of future SoC designs.
  • Look for inventive ways to integrate SoCs, then develop the supporting tools and workflows needed to make those approaches practical.
  • Use workload characterization and analysis to influence future architecture decisions across SoC, CPU, and IP development.
  • Contribute to a team that works on early-stage platforms for exploring next-generation Arm system and SoC architecture.
  • Help tackle difficult verification, emulation, and prototyping challenges in a fast-moving environment.

What the role requires

  • Deep understanding of computer architecture and bus protocols.
  • Proven experience bringing up full-chip SoC test cases in simulation and emulation environments.
  • Experience implementing RTL modules in Verilog or SystemVerilog.
  • Programming ability in Python or Ruby, C or C++, and assembly language.
  • Experience preparing workloads and benchmarks to run in RTL simulation and emulation environments.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative working style.
  • A proactive mindset with strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Helpful additional experience includes Unix or Linux, scripting, and source control tools such as Git or Subversion.
  • It is also useful to have familiarity with one or more CPU instruction sets.
  • Knowledge of Arm architecture is desirable.
  • Experience with compilers, assemblers, or device drivers would also be an advantage.

What Arm offers in return

Arm says this position gives you the chance to apply your engineering skills to technologies that will shape products used by millions of people for years to come. You will also have the opportunity to learn from, and contribute ideas alongside, some of the strongest engineers in the field.

The salary range listed for the role is £73,500 to £99,500 per year.

Arm also highlights a broader rewards package that includes support for health and wellbeing, help with work-life balance, financial rewards beyond base pay, and development support for both professional and personal growth.

Working arrangements

Arm uses a hybrid working approach designed to balance high performance with personal wellbeing. The company wants teams to spend time together in person so they can work quickly and collaboratively, while still preserving flexibility. The exact pattern for this role is set by the team and will be explained during the application process. In some locations, flexibility may be affected by legal, regulatory, tax, or other local requirements, and Arm says it will work with candidates to find the best possible arrangement.

Recruitment support and inclusion

Arm is committed to building diverse teams and providing an environment of mutual respect. The company says it does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or veteran status.

If you need an adjustment or accommodation during recruitment, Arm invites you to contact [email protected]. Examples of support mentioned include breaks between interviews, documents being read aloud, and help with office accessibility. Arm says accommodation requests are handled confidentially and information is only shared when needed to provide the support requested.

How to apply

Additional context

The role is based in Sheffield, Cambridge, or Manchester in the United Kingdom, and the posting is categorized under Software Engineering and Verification. Arm frames the work as part of a broader effort to test the limits of future chip technology, with verification extending well beyond simple debugging into simulation software, model checking, and hardware prototyping.

Arm also describes its culture as collaborative and innovative, with an emphasis on working together as one team and valuing diversity while pursuing progress.
