This role is for a highly experienced platform architecture leader who will shape and guide the design, governance, modernization, and operational quality of large-scale enterprise data and integration platforms. The work spans Snowflake, Confluent Cloud, Azure cloud services, GitHub Actions, Kubernetes, data mesh, and wider integration ecosystems. The successful candidate will combine deep technical knowledge with strategic thinking, strong client-facing skills, and the ability to provide practical hands-on direction across several platform areas.
The position is based in London, United Kingdom, and the compensation is described as competitive, with bonus included. The role sits within the technology architecture space and focuses on building scalable, secure, resilient, and business-aligned platform capabilities.
What you will do
- Set the enterprise architecture direction for data and integration platforms, covering governance, modernization, and operational excellence across Snowflake, Confluent Cloud, Azure, GitHub Actions, Kubernetes, data mesh, and related technologies.
- Create reference architectures, technical standards, and engineering guardrails that guide delivery teams and platform users.
- Develop roadmaps for modernizing data, streaming, integration, and platform engineering environments.
- Lead architecture reviews, assess technologies, and drive transformation initiatives that improve the platform estate.
- Put governance, security, resilience, scalability, and cost-control mechanisms in place for the platform landscape.
- Own Snowflake architecture decisions, including access control, governance, data sharing, performance tuning, and support for multiple environments.
- Define enterprise standards and operating practices for the data platform, including guidance on warehouse sizing, workload management, tuning, and cost optimization.
- Design event-driven solutions using Confluent Cloud and related streaming capabilities.
- Set standards for topics, schema management, security controls, high availability, disaster recovery, and cluster strategy.
- Establish integration patterns using Kafka, Kafka Connect, APIs, and streaming architectures.
- Define CI/CD standards using GitHub Actions and drive automation, infrastructure-as-code, release governance, and quality gates.
- Promote platform engineering practices that enable continuous delivery and automation.
- Shape data mesh operating models, including domain ownership, governance, metadata management, and interoperability.
- Design integration approaches that connect Snowflake, Kafka, cloud platforms, APIs, ETL/ELT pipelines, and downstream systems.
- Partner with business and engineering stakeholders to support the delivery of scalable data products.
What you need
- Several years of experience in platform engineering, cloud, integration, or data platform roles.
- Experience delivering at least one large program that implemented a multi-technology cloud-based data platform.
- Strong hands-on expertise in Snowflake and/or Confluent Kafka.
- Practical experience with Confluent Cloud, Kafka Connect, Schema Registry, and event-driven architecture.
- Experience with GitHub Actions, CI/CD, DevOps automation, and infrastructure-as-code.
- Experience working with Azure, AWS, or GCP.
- Strong knowledge of Kubernetes, containerization, and cloud-native platforms.
- Deep understanding of data mesh, data governance, security, and compliance.
- Experience with observability, monitoring, and platform operations.
- Strong stakeholder management skills and experience working directly with customers.
- Experience in Agile delivery environments.
- Strong analytical thinking, initiative, and flexibility.
- Customer-oriented approach with a strong focus on quality.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
