Anthropic is hiring a senior engineering leader for its Developer Productivity area within Infrastructure in London. The role sits inside a team that underpins the company’s ability to train models, run safety experiments, and scale Claude reliably to a large user base. The work is centered on improving how engineers and researchers create, test, and ship software at scale, with a focus on the systems and tooling that make development faster, more reliable, and less cumbersome.
The broader mission of the company is to build AI systems that are dependable, understandable, and steerable, with safety and usefulness for society at the center of the work. The Infrastructure organization is described as essential to that mission because it provides the technical foundation that supports model training, experimentation, and large-scale product delivery. Developer Productivity specifically owns the full developer experience across source control, language ecosystems, build and CI systems, and internal tooling that integrates Claude into engineering workflows.
What you would do
- Set the technical direction for your area and turn team goals into practical plans that can be executed effectively.
- Define infrastructure architecture and make sure the hardest technical challenges are solved, either directly by you or through collaboration and delegation.
- Build and operate distributed infrastructure and shared libraries that are reliable, scalable, and able to support high-volume workloads across the engineering organization.
- Take ownership of build environments, dependency management, and package systems so that builds are fast, reproducible, and dependable.
- Create and refine standards, tooling, and frameworks for language ecosystems that improve productivity for both research and production engineering teams.
- Contribute to developer acceleration tools that bring Claude into internal workflows and help engineers work more efficiently.
- Partner closely with internal teams to reduce friction in the software development lifecycle and improve the overall developer experience.
What Anthropic is looking for
- Deep practical experience with build systems, CI/CD pipelines, and/or developer tooling in a large monorepo environment.
- Strong coding skills in Python, Rust, and/or Go.
- A strong interest in developer productivity and in removing obstacles from the development process.
- Experience with container orchestration and large-scale infrastructure operations.
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to supporting internal partners.
- Comfort with ambiguity, independence, and high-impact foundational engineering work.
- For especially strong candidates, roughly 15+ years of full-time software engineering experience focused on large-scale developer infrastructure, not counting internships or co-ops.
- For especially strong candidates, roughly 3+ years of experience leading major complex initiatives or acting as a tech lead, not counting internships or co-ops.
- Experience with CI orchestration tools such as Buildkite, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or similar systems, including managing merge queues at scale.
- Experience with remote build execution systems such as Bazel Remote Execution API, BuildBarn, BuildBuddy, or similar platforms.
- Experience using Nix, NixOS, Docker, or comparable tools to manage large image and package ecosystems.
- Experience creating CLI tools, developer-facing services, and automation that uses the GitHub API.
- A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Relevant academic or professional background in a field connected to the role.
- Experience expectations will vary depending on the internal level assigned to the position.
Team and hiring process context
Team placement is finalized after interviews and depends on interview performance, candidate interests, and business needs. Anthropic may also consider applicants for other Infrastructure teams if appropriate.
The company encourages people to apply even if they do not meet every listed qualification, noting that strong candidates may still fall short of some items. It also emphasizes the importance of diverse perspectives and says it wants to avoid discouraging applicants from underrepresented groups who may underestimate their fit.
Compensation and perks
The annual salary range for this position is £325,000 to £390,000 GBP.
- Competitive pay and benefits.
- Optional matching for charitable equity donations.
- Generous vacation time.
- Generous parental leave.
- Flexible working hours.
- A pleasant office environment designed for collaboration.
Working arrangement
This is a hybrid role. Staff are expected to work from one of the company’s offices at least 25% of the time, and some positions may require a higher level of in-office attendance.

Candidates apply through the online application form and are asked to provide standard details such as contact information, resume or CV, cover letter, LinkedIn profile or website, and responses to application questions including availability, relocation openness, prior interviews at Anthropic, years of software engineering experience, AI policy acknowledgement, and whether visa sponsorship is required.
