This position is part of Google’s network organization and focuses on helping deliver, maintain, and operate private data networks at global scale. The work centers on making network deployment and operations faster, more reliable, and more efficient, with a strong emphasis on automation, process improvement, and accurate operational data. The role is based in London, UK, and is positioned at a mid-level experience band, meaning it is intended for someone who can deliver independently, solve problems, and support or mentor less experienced colleagues.

What you will do

  • Support the dependable operation of Google’s network across large-scale environments, with a particular focus on improving workflows through automation and efficiency gains.
  • Partner with technical program managers, network engineers, design and infrastructure engineers, field engineers, construction partners, telecommunications vendors, and contractors to help deliver network projects successfully.
  • Develop practical, scalable approaches that improve deployment speed and lower operating costs by refining processes and working methods.
  • Take responsibility for a specific area of the network or a defined operational domain, resolving issues, anticipating needs, and escalating when necessary.
  • Identify opportunities to automate repetitive work and reduce recurring failure patterns.
  • Maintain high-quality network records and data so that operations remain accurate and effective.
  • Contribute to the broader mission of building a network that is reliable, cost-effective, and able to scale for current and future users around the world.

Team and role context

The network team is responsible for operating Google’s network at scale and for managing the full lifecycle of space, power, and network assets across data centers and metro points of presence worldwide. The work begins early in the lifecycle, including involvement in site acquisition and construction, and continues through architecture, design, installation, configuration, activation, and commissioning. The team supports the infrastructure that connects Google’s services to users globally, including metro locations at the edge of the network.

What the role requires

  • A bachelor’s degree in Network Engineering, Telecom Engineering, another related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least three years of experience working in carrier-class environments.
  • Hands-on experience working with field operations technicians, engineers, contractors, or vendors in a telecommunications environment.
  • Working knowledge of both physical network infrastructure and higher-layer networking, including DWDM, AC/DC power, outside plant and inside plant infrastructure, TCP/IP, and routing.
  • For the preferred profile, experience creating and deploying automation solutions for network deployment or similar operational workflows.
  • Ability to interpret, validate, and execute complex technical deployment documentation or packages.
  • Experience across network installation, configuration, infrastructure, operations, optical engineering and operations, IP backbone environments, and project management is considered advantageous.
  • The role is aimed at someone with mid-level experience who can drive progress, solve problems, and support the development of junior team members.
  • Because Google operates globally, strong English proficiency is required unless a posting explicitly states otherwise.
