Amazon Web Services is looking for a Data Centre Security Specialist to join its growing Data Centre Operations organisation. The role sits within the security function that supports AWS infrastructure, where the focus is on protecting customer data and maintaining strong physical security across data centre campuses. The successful candidate will be expected to bring a careful, professional, and improvement-minded approach, with an emphasis on teamwork, customer service, and continuous enhancement of security operations.

This position reports to the Area Security Manager for the relevant data centre campus. It involves close partnership with data centre managers and other stakeholders to strengthen security strategy, support operational goals, and improve the overall security posture of the site. The role also includes oversight of contracted security personnel and coordination with vendors and internal teams involved in repairs, construction, and other site activities that affect security.

What you will do

  • Lead and coordinate the work of a professional contracted guard force supporting the data centre.
  • Work alongside data centre managers to develop security plans, help meet financial objectives, and improve operational security performance.
  • Act as the point of contact for vendors supporting repairs and new security-related construction work, helping ensure their activities are properly mobilised and coordinated.
  • Track the performance of security vendors, review whether service delivery is meeting expectations, and request corrective action when needed.
  • Build productive relationships with site stakeholders and help them understand how to reduce false alarms.
  • Gather, review, and analyse operational data and security metrics to identify trends and measure improvement.
  • Confirm that security programmes are being delivered in line with global security requirements and standards.
  • Develop ideas and strategies to strengthen electronic surveillance and access control capabilities.
  • Prepare written reports and presentations on the condition and performance of physical security operations.
  • Work with managers to create, document, and implement security processes and procedures.
  • Represent the customer perspective by identifying opportunities to improve security and proposing innovative solutions that maintain high standards.

The role is part of AWS Infrastructure Services, the organisation responsible for designing, planning, delivering, and operating AWS global infrastructure. This includes the data centres and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling systems that keep AWS services available to customers around the world. The work is described as challenging and complex, with many variables affecting the supply chain and operations.

You will join a broad and diverse team that includes software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security professionals, operations managers, and other critical roles. The wider environment is collaborative and inclusive, with an expectation that people contribute bold ideas and take ownership through to completion.

What AWS offers

  • A comprehensive onboarding programme and training when you join.
  • Continued support from local and regional security colleagues.
  • Opportunities to collaborate with teams across different regions and functions worldwide.
  • An inclusive culture supported by employee-led affinity groups.
  • Learning and community events such as CORE and AmazeCon that encourage inclusion and professional growth.
  • Mentorship, knowledge-sharing, and career-development resources to help you build a well-rounded career.
  • A workplace culture that values flexibility and aims to support work-life harmony.

What you need

  • A bachelor’s degree in criminology, criminal justice, or a closely related subject.
  • Alternatively, a bachelor’s degree or higher in security, law enforcement, or a military discipline.
  • Experience in at least one of the following areas: corporate security management, transport or supply chain operations, or aviation security.
  • For the preferred background, experience managing contracted security and physical security programmes, including access control, intrusion detection, and CCTV surveillance systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and a professional approach to security operations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with managers, vendors, and stakeholders to improve processes and outcomes.
  • A willingness to learn, adapt, and contribute in a fast-moving environment.
