The position sits at the intersection of strategy, architecture, delivery and practice leadership, with responsibility for helping major brands create modern mobile experiences at scale. It is intended for a leader who can combine deep technical credibility with consulting skills, people leadership and business growth awareness.
The role is centred on building and evolving the UK mobile capability. You will work with multidisciplinary teams and senior client stakeholders to define mobile strategy, modernise platforms and guide delivery across native and cross-platform ecosystems. The work spans a range of sectors, including financial services, retail, automotive, healthcare, media and consumer brands, each with its own technical constraints and transformation goals. A significant part of the role is client-facing, but it also includes operational leadership, capability building and contribution to growth.
What you will do
- Act as a senior advisor to client leaders, earning trust and helping them make informed decisions about mobile strategy and delivery.
- Take oversight of complex programmes and step in early when there is risk to delivery, team health or client relationships.
- Connect architecture, engineering, design, product and data disciplines so that solutions are joined up and delivery approaches are coherent.
- Review the overall health of the mobile practice, including whether skills and capacity match demand, how engaged the community is and how well delivery is performing, then respond to what you find.
- Facilitate workshops and help clients define mobile transformation roadmaps.
- Guide decisions around platform modernisation and solution architecture.
- Work closely with product, design, data and engineering colleagues to deliver integrated mobile experiences.
- Influence important technology investment choices for clients.
- Set the direction for Valtech’s mobile vision and strategy in the UK and help the capability grow.
- Take accountability for line management within the practice, including oversight of line managers who report to you.
- Make sure 1:1s, development conversations, performance reviews, succession planning and difficult people matters are handled consistently and effectively.
- Coach new and emerging leaders so they can lead with confidence, consistency and care.
- Help shape career pathways and the skills framework so progression is clear and supported.
- Define and uphold engineering standards and best practices.
- Build communities of practice and mentor engineers and architects.
- Encourage purposeful innovation, from small internal experiments to external thought leadership such as speaking, writing and publishing whitepapers.
- Provide architectural guidance across large and complex mobile programmes.
- Lead technical direction across iOS, Android and cross-platform solutions.
- Ensure mobile solutions are secure, resilient and able to scale.
- Promote modern engineering practices such as continuous integration and delivery, observability and automation.
- Explore emerging technologies, including AI-enabled experiences and intelligent assistants.
- Work with UK growth teams on pitches and pre-sales, bringing a practical and credible technical perspective to senior commercial discussions.
- Support wider UK strategic initiatives so the practice contributes to broader business priorities.
- Contribute to proposals and solution design for new opportunities.
