This is a senior leadership opportunity for an experienced mobile specialist who can shape strategy, guide delivery, and help grow a mobile engineering capability in the UK. The position sits at the intersection of consulting, technical leadership, people development and commercial growth, with responsibility for helping major brands create modern mobile experiences at scale.
The role is designed for someone who can operate confidently across client strategy, architecture and delivery while also building the internal practice around standards, talent development and innovation. You will work with multidisciplinary teams and senior stakeholders to modernise mobile platforms, influence technology direction, and strengthen the organisation’s position in digital experience and mobile innovation.
What you will do
- Act as a senior trusted adviser to client leaders, helping them make informed decisions about mobile strategy and delivery.
- Oversee complex programmes and intervene early when needed to protect delivery quality, team health and client relationships.
- Connect architects, engineers, strategists, designers, product specialists and data teams so that work is coordinated and end-to-end problems are solved coherently.
- Monitor the overall condition of the mobile practice, including skills coverage, demand alignment, community engagement and delivery performance, then respond to any issues or gaps.
- Facilitate workshops and help clients build mobile transformation roadmaps.
- Guide decisions on platform modernisation and mobile architecture.
- Work closely with Product, Design, Data and Engineering colleagues to deliver joined-up solutions.
- Influence strategic technology investment decisions with clients.
- Set the direction for Valtech’s mobile capability in the UK and keep evolving its vision and strategy.
- Take accountability for line management within the practice, including oversight of line managers who report to you.
- Ensure regular one-to-ones, development discussions, performance calibration, succession planning and difficult conversations are handled well across the team.
- Coach new and emerging leaders so they can lead consistently, confidently and with care.
- Help shape career pathways and the skills framework so progression is clear and supported.
- Define engineering standards and best practices for the mobile practice.
- Build communities of practice and mentor engineers and architects.
- Encourage purposeful innovation through experiments, talks, blogs, whitepapers and other thought leadership that can improve the capability and support business growth.
- Provide architectural oversight for complex mobile programmes across iOS, Android and cross-platform technologies.
- Ensure mobile solutions are built to be scalable, secure and resilient.
- Promote modern engineering practices such as continuous integration and delivery, observability and automation.
- Explore emerging technologies, including AI-enabled experiences and intelligent assistants, where they can add value.
- Work with UK growth teams on pitches and pre-sales activity, bringing a credible technical perspective to senior commercial discussions.
- Support wider UK strategic initiatives so the mobile practice contributes to broader business goals.
- Contribute to proposals and solution design for new opportunities.
- Identify opportunities to expand client relationships and grow engagements.
- Represent the company externally through industry involvement and thought leadership.
- Help strengthen the organisation’s reputation as a leader in mobile innovation and digital experience.
- Work across sectors such as financial services, retail, automotive, healthcare, media and consumer brands, adapting to different technical environments and transformation ambitions.

What you need
- Experience leading mobile engineering teams, practices or capability areas.
- Strong consulting ability and confidence working with stakeholders at senior level.
- The ability to influence business and technology leaders.
- A clear commitment to coaching and developing people.
- Experience with native mobile development, including iOS and/or Android.
- Experience with cross-platform tools such as Flutter or React Native.
- Knowledge of mobile architecture and platform strategy.
- Experience working in API-driven environments.
- Practical understanding of CI/CD and DevOps approaches.
- Awareness of security, identity and authentication in mobile systems.
- Experience with analytics and observability.
- Familiarity with cloud-native platforms and backend integration.
- Experience in consulting, agency or digital transformation settings.
- Comfort working across strategy, architecture and delivery.
- Experience leading client engagements and workshops.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Commercial awareness and experience supporting growth initiatives.

- Work on AI-powered mobile experiences or agentic AI.
