Senior RF Filter Engineer Overview

This opportunity is for an experienced RF and microwave specialist to join a growing engineering team near Leeds, where the business is investing heavily in its Yeadon site and expanding across multiple product areas. The company is a long-established manufacturer working in space, defence, high-reliability communications, and next-generation connectivity hardware, with strong commercial momentum and several major programme wins across filters, mmWave, and subsystem products.

The successful engineer will become part of the core RF and microwave group and will be responsible for taking filter design work from early concept all the way through to release and delivery. The emphasis is on creating technically robust, manufacturable solutions that satisfy performance targets while also meeting cost, schedule, and production requirements.

What you will do

• Lead RF and microwave filter and filter-based subsystem design work from start to finish, including simulation, prototyping, tuning, validation, and release.
• Contribute to research and development activity aimed at the company’s next generation of filter technologies.
• Support quotation activity by working with sales and commercial colleagues, and engage with customers directly when needed.
• Prepare, review, and maintain all design-related records and release materials, including logbooks, data packs, review outputs, and NPI documentation.
• Deliver designs that are fully verified, production-ready, and aligned with project constraints.
• Produce and review tollgate documentation in line with the organisation’s new product introduction process.
• Take part in design reviews and help lead them where appropriate, including spotting technical risks and defining mitigation actions.
• Carry out complete verification and validation work, such as test planning, reporting, and reliability testing.
• Maintain a detailed compliance matrix with evidence demonstrating that requirements have been met.
• Support product introduction into manufacturing, troubleshoot technical issues, and develop diagnostic and training procedures for internal use.

What the employer is looking for

• A degree, or equivalent background, in RF/Microwave Engineering or a related subject.
• Strong hands-on experience in RF and microwave filter design.
• Practical knowledge of tolerance and yield analysis, power handling, thermal drift, and design-for-manufacture considerations.
• Ability to use Microwave Office, CST Studio, and Spark3D confidently.
• Experience tuning RF and microwave filters in a lab environment using vector network analysers, along with power and temperature testing.
• Excellent documentation skills and the ability to communicate clearly with both customers and internal teams.
• A proactive, highly motivated approach and the ability to work effectively across multiple engineering disciplines.
• Willingness to adapt as programme priorities and customer needs evolve.
