The hiring company is seeking a Materials Scientist to join its expanding research and development team in Oxford. This role sits within a fast-moving, well-funded deep-tech environment and is focused on creating the next generation of nanomaterials for optoelectronic and advanced materials uses. The position is aimed at someone who wants to help move cutting-edge research out of the lab and into scalable technologies with practical impact.
What you will do
- Develop, synthesise, and improve metal nanoparticles and other functional nanomaterials for advanced applications.
- Work on ink development, tuning formulations so that viscosity, stability, and particle distribution are controlled effectively.
- Design, refine, and optimise processes for thin-film deposition, coating, and printing.
- Use advanced analytical and characterisation methods to assess electrical, optical, and material performance.
- Examine how structure influences properties in order to improve performance, reliability, and stability of the materials.
- Help turn research outcomes into processes and technologies that can be scaled for real-world use.
What the employer is looking for
- A PhD in Materials Science, Nanotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Optoelectronics, or a similar field, or equivalent experience gained in industry.
- Practical, hands-on experience synthesising metal nanoparticles, nanomaterials, or conductive inks in wet-chemistry environments.
- Knowledge of nanoparticle surface chemistry and sintering processes.
- Experience with thin-film deposition, coating, or printing techniques.
- Familiarity with electrical, optical, and materials characterisation techniques, including tools such as SEM or Raman spectroscopy.
- Any background in printed electronics, transparent conductive materials, semiconductor devices, or scaling nanomaterial manufacturing processes would be beneficial.

- A competitive salary.
- A comprehensive benefits package.
- Equity participation in the business.
- Private medical insurance.
- Relocation assistance, where relevant.
- Support for training and professional development.
