A well-funded AI engineering organisation is looking for a Software Engineer to help create a new AI framework designed for environments where control, compliance, and trust are critical. The work sits within a wider high-assurance initiative aimed at making AI safe and dependable for sectors such as financial services and healthcare, where accuracy, explainability, and accountability are non-negotiable. The framework is being built in Rust to take advantage of memory safety and performance, and it includes features such as mathematically provable output correctness, sandboxed execution, and intelligent filtering.
What you will be doing
- Designing, building, and supporting the frameworkâs core components in idiomatic Rust, with a focus on clean, maintainable systems code.
- Creating secure execution environments that can safely run AI workloads without exposing sensitive data or violating policy.
- Developing multi-model validation pipelines that compare outputs and help ensure reliability before results are used downstream.
- Building filtering and protection layers that reduce the risk of leakage, unsafe behaviour, or breaches of internal rules.
- Using large language models, AI agents, and coding assistants extensively to help write, test, and refactor software.
- Designing architectures that integrate foundation models into production systems while still meeting strict governance and compliance standards.
- Reviewing code produced by AI tools for security, performance, and correctness before it is accepted into the codebase.
- Creating CI/CD processes that are tailored to AI-assisted development and support efficient, safe delivery.
- Turning compliance requirements and control procedures into practical software implementations.
- Contributing to a broader programme focused on high-assurance AI for regulated environments.
What the employer is looking for
- Proven experience working with Rust in a professional setting.
- Strong systems programming ability and a secure-coding mindset.
- Very strong practical experience using LLMs, AI agents, or coding copilots as part of development work, including tools such as Cursor, Copilot, or autonomous coding agents.
- Awareness of the challenges involved in enterprise AI deployment, especially around security, regulation, and auditability.
- Excellent debugging skills and the ability to tune systems for latency, safety, and scalability.
- Experience in regulated sectors such as finance, banking, or healthcare would be advantageous.
- Background in formal verification, applied cryptography, or verifiable computation would be a strong plus.
- Exposure to sandboxing approaches such as WebAssembly, virtual machines, or containers would be helpful.
- Open-source Rust contributions would be welcomed.
