An international employer is seeking a Staff Etch Process Development Engineer to join its semiconductor fabrication operation in Northamptonshire. The role focuses on developing, refining, and supporting both dry and wet etch processes for III-V semiconductor and photonic devices. It is a hands-on process development position with a strong emphasis on improving manufacturing performance, introducing new products successfully, increasing yield, and making production more efficient.
What you will do
- Build, qualify, and enhance semiconductor manufacturing processes so they are robust and ready for production use.
- Improve dry and wet etch steps to achieve better performance, more consistent results, and higher yield.
- Review process and equipment information to spot opportunities for improvement using statistical process control, design of experiments, Six Sigma, and Lean techniques.
- Contribute to new product introduction, technology transfer, and the scaling of processes from development into manufacturing.
- Diagnose and resolve issues affecting process performance or equipment reliability, with the aim of increasing uptime and reducing defects.
- Drive improvement programmes focused on yield growth, scrap reduction, shorter cycle times, and lower production costs.
- Partner with Product, Equipment, Manufacturing, and Research and Development teams to support process development and factory execution.

- Strong practical understanding of SPC, DOE, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, and root-cause investigation methods.
- Ability to work with statistical data, improve processes through analysis, and solve complex manufacturing problems.
- Good communication skills, plus the confidence to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- A degree, or equivalent relevant experience, in Semiconductor Technology, Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or a similar subject area.
