What the analytics team does

What you will do

• Carry out analysis before and after trades using appropriate analytical methods and core quantitative principles.
• Build models that track fundamental supply and demand balances, as well as trade flows, for the products traded by the energy division.
• Follow global oil movements through vessel-tracking data and assess the effect of those movements on the pricing of physical cargoes.
• Work from the trading floor and develop forecasting models both with traders and on your own to improve estimates of fundamental and price data.
• Review the information gathered, spot anomalies or unusual patterns in the market, and identify situations that may create trading opportunities.
• Explain your findings clearly and effectively to traders and senior managers so they can be used in decision-making.
• Use initiative, commercial thinking and entrepreneurial energy to create additional value for the business.
• Partner with shipping and technology teams to develop tools that support better results across the organisation.

Essential and preferred qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree at 2:1 level or above in Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering or a similar discipline.
• Applicants who have already graduated, as well as those expecting to graduate in 2027 with a 2:1 or better, are eligible to apply.
• Demonstrated interest in Glencore’s commodities work, ideally backed by relevant experience in the energy or oil sectors.
• Strong numeracy, analytical ability and problem-solving skills.
• Advanced ability in Microsoft Excel and experience with quantitative data analysis gained through study, extracurricular activity or employment.
• Desirable coding ability in VBA, Python or SQL.

Working arrangements
