This is an opportunity to join a supportive and forward-looking breast imaging service within an NHS trust that places patients and staff at the centre of its work. The team is looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated mammographer at Band 6 level, and the employer has also said that a trainee mammographer may be considered. The post sits within a service that provides breast screening and symptomatic breast imaging for women in the Dudley, Wolverhampton and South Staffordshire areas, with work based from the main unit at Russells Hall Hospital and across assessment centres, static screening locations and mobile units.

The organisation describes itself as one that values safe, caring and effective care, with a strong emphasis on respect, responsibility, inclusion and staff wellbeing. It also highlights a commitment to helping employees develop, offering support for people who are new to the profession, educated overseas, or returning to practice. The role is permanent and full-time, and travel is required across the service’s mobile and fixed sites.

What you will do

  • Carry out the full range of duties expected from a Band 6 mammographer within a busy breast imaging service.
  • Support breast screening and symptomatic breast services across the Dudley, Wolverhampton and South Staffordshire catchment areas.
  • Work from the main breast screening unit at Russells Hall Hospital and contribute across the assessment centres at Russells Hall Hospital, New Cross Hospital and Cannock Chase Hospital.

  • Travel to mobile units and static locations as part of the normal duties of the post.
  • Use strong planning and organisational skills to manage a varied workload and prioritise effectively.
  • Make sound decisions and work confidently in demanding or stressful situations.
  • Contribute to quality assurance activity and help maintain high standards across the service.
  • Communicate clearly and sensitively, including when discussing complex or upsetting information with patients.
  • Work independently while also contributing to, supporting and supervising the wider team.
  • Help motivate colleagues and play a part in service development and improvement.
  • Demonstrate the Trust’s values of Care, Respect and Responsibility in everyday practice.
  • If appointed as a trainee, develop the required competence under Annex 21 arrangements.
