Senior iOS Engineer Overview

An expanding technology company operating in the tech-for-good and medical sector is looking for a senior iOS specialist to join its software team. The business is building a product that brings together IoT, GPS, and computer vision, with the aim of supporting millions of people around the world. This is a hands-on, high-ownership position for an engineer who can take responsibility for the iOS layer of a critical system and help scale the platform as the company grows.

What you will do

• Own the iOS development work for a fast-moving product and operate with a high degree of independence.
• Design, implement, and support a native iOS application built with Swift, SwiftUI, and modern concurrency approaches.
• Develop dependable Bluetooth connectivity between the mobile app and external hardware.
• Improve the performance of sensor-fusion and solver components, including Ceres-based logic, so they can execute in real time on mobile hardware.
• Address systems-level challenges such as memory management, threading, and the constraints of ARM processors to preserve very low latency.
• Bridge low-level C++ and/or Rust code into the iOS front end, ensuring the mobile experience works smoothly with the underlying system components.
• Work alongside Robotics Engineers and Computer Vision Engineers to deliver software that supports critical real-world navigation use cases.
• Build and maintain software that can tolerate high-frequency data flows without unacceptable delays or outages.
• Contribute to the continued growth of the platform so it can serve more users and have a wider positive impact.

What the employer is looking for

• Strong native iOS development experience, particularly with Swift.
• Practical knowledge of Core Bluetooth and BLE.
• Experience with background processing on iOS, including power profiling and power management.
• Good understanding of iOS frameworks and UI technologies such as UIKit and SwiftUI.
• Strong programming ability in C++ and/or Rust.
• Proven experience handling high-frequency time-series data.
• Ideally, experience managing fleets of edge devices in IoT or robotics settings.
• Experience designing systems that are highly resilient, low latency, and suitable for environments where uptime is essential.
• Ability to integrate C++ and/or Rust components into an iOS application would be highly beneficial.
• Experience with Firebase, GPS, GNSS, IoT, or connected devices would be a welcome advantage.
• The role is intended for an experienced engineer who can take ownership and deliver in a critical product area.
• The advertised salary is £100,000 to £110,000.
• The position is in London, England.
